Re: WANT DIFFERENT WHEELS...WHAT DO YOU LIKE
I haven't bought a set of wheels yet for my roadrunner. I know it came with road wheels from the factory.
If I was to go aftermarket, I would look at the AR500's from American Racing. You can get them up to an 17 or 18 inch wheel and they look like a billet version of the road wheel. Let me know if your interested in selling your road wheels. Doing a stock restoration on my roadrunner and the previous owner didn't have the factory 14 inch wheels.

If you can find them, here's what I've got. I bought them in 1973, but as far as I know the Indy 500 Mags ceased production in 1974.

I like those aluminum mag slots too!
I had some slots on mine for the last 20 years. Interesting to see how they went from being what everyone had - to what is now retro-rare. Here is a pic of mine before I went back to the ralleys.

Re: WANT DIFFERENT WHEELS...WHAT DO YOU LIKE
I like the wheels but they are a pain in the butt to polish!
From what I understand the place that made the plastic hub covers no longer offers them, so I take extra care to not break one of the tabs when I take them off to clean the wheels.
There are a ding or two in them but hey, they've been on the car since 1973 and I drive it. I thought about having them remachined, but it's really expensive and I'd lose the "history" of them.
All I have left of my ralleys are the center hubs. I was stationed in California in 1973 and the Road Runner had the original wheels. I bought a 21 foot jet boat that was on a tandem axle trailer with 14 inch chrome rims. I wanted 15 inch so I could use the Road Runner spare for the trailer, so I traded the 14 inch chrome ones for the mags, put them on the Road Runner and the ralleys on the boat trailer, minus the hubs as they wouldn't fit the trailer with them on. So my original ralley wheels are probably still on that boat trailer out in California somewhere!

Re: WANT DIFFERENT WHEELS...WHAT DO YOU LIKE
Heres my two cents,or three cents worth. What i have found out over the years, and i know it's all depends on personal likes, but but if you look at what the car makers have done through the years it makes sense.square bodied cars like the 60's look best with rounded spoke wheels(torque thrust, crager ect.) and round boded cars with square spokeed wheels look at at the intrepid ect. With our cars one of the best combos out side of ralleys was the old ET slots which did look good on both body styles, or the drag lites from weld.I can't remember who but someone is making a real close repo of the ET's.......
By the way, i have located a 71SSP buckes, rally dash, and a 72 SS bench, standard dash. No motors. If anyone has a shopping list give me a call and i'll see what i can do.

Re: WANT DIFFERENT WHEELS...WHAT DO YOU LIKE
Question for gionni. On those 19 x 8 & 20 x 10 rims that you're running on your car. What size tires are you running on those? What's the off set of the rims? No problems with rubbing, right? The more I look at your car. The more & more I like the looks of one of our cars down on the ground as a rocket ship. So if I do something like that to mine. I want to make sure they fit, and not rub or have problems. I'd hate to have to explain to the wife that the reason they're sitting in the garage, and not on the car. Is that they don't fit.

Re: WANT DIFFERENT WHEELS...WHAT DO YOU LIKE
The wheels have 7mm offset front and rear. The tires-sizes are 245/40-19 and 275/40-20. no problems with rubbing, with complete original body and no tubbing. my car have airride-suspension, and in complete deflated position i can still move the car without rubbing.ILUV72RRs wrote:Question for gionni. Re: WANT DIFFERENT WHEELS...WHAT DO YOU LIKE
Thanks for the info. Looks like I should look into the cost of installing air-ride suspension. I wouldn't want them rubbing when I'm going down the road.

Re: WANT DIFFERENT WHEELS...WHAT DO YOU LIKE
I'm having the same problem. I really like my Cragars, but they're getting crusty. So I'm debating on a new set in the same size, or getting fancy and going with a 17" or so.
I'm big on the classic negative offset dish in a 5-spoke, but that's just me.
