Basic rubbing compound and a rag always works for me.
A buffing wheel is even better.

If you need to take off heavier oxidation, I have tried super fine steel wool on some chrome trim and found it helpful. I suggest picking up some of the least abrasive types of superfine (#0000) or (#000) that will not scratch. Maybe superfine steel wool and rubbing compound will give you a little more abrasion without scratching.
