Headlight & Wiper Knob Restoration
I noticed in the Interior Hood Release post photo by 72RoadRunnerGTX the restored headlight and wiper knobs with the nice blue painted inset. If 72RoadRunnerGTX or anyone else reads this, could you let me know who restored the knobs and how costly they were? Any help would be appreciated.

One of the skills I can trace directly back to building model airplanes as a kid. Pactra "Flat Insignia Blue" model paint, a fine model paint brush and a steady hand. Not tuff at all, the area where the paint is needed is relieved and helps define the boarders cleanly.

Re: Headlight & Wiper Knob Restoration
so those knobs dont just yank out, I need a hex key?
Again, another uncannily timely post as I've been in the process of restoring my dash and shifter plate.
Since I'm on the subject, I'm about to pick up a NOS "GTX" dash emblem I scored off Ebay for only $255. I'd given up hope of ever seeing one. They guy I bought it from, coincidentially, had the rare belt moldings as well so I picked those up. I read some where the dash emblem was a '71 only piece. Someone on Moparts said the belt moldings were optional on some Satellite's as well.
All I'm missing now thats hard to find are those rocker cover moldings. Last time I saw those for sale the guy wanted $1k. For that money I'd rather have the louvers or eyebrow.

Thats a score. The only time I saw them was on Ebay for a start price of $700, then he pulled them to sell on Moparts. They were restored though.71440 gtx wrote:rocker cover moldings are 71 gtx only it cost me 350 can for mine

Re: Headlight & Wiper Knob Restoration
I was told by a guy with a 71 hemi GTX (I'm not sure if he's on here) that the rocker mouldings for the 71 GTX are different from the 71 Satellite. Does anyone have pics of both of them? I'm trying to decide if I should grind the pins off when I paint, or if I should try to locate the trim.

The headlight knob-There's a button on the back of the headlight switch. Press the button in and it releases the knob and shaft as one. To install-the same in reverse. Hold the button in and push it in til it "locks". Not 100% sure for the wiper. I think it pulls off the shaft for the windsheild switch (been a while)

After I thought about it. There is a tool top remove the nut after you get the windsheild nut offrr6pak wrote:NOrrTH wrote:so those knobs dont just yank out, I need a hex ?

Re: Headlight & Wiper Knob Restoration
The dash emblem you are talking about isn't this part of the larger fake wood applique on the dash. If this is correct would their not be 2 styles one with the ac vents and one without the ac vents?. Also what are the belt moldings you are discussing?

there are different styles of inserts, but the actual emblems can switch between satellite, charger, roadrunner, gtx...2 or 3 pins push through the insert to secure it. the belt molding is the chrome trim that runs from the drip rail down the side of the rear window, then forward along the bottom edge of the windows/top of doors. my car came with them, but i've about given-up on finding some - let alone when you do, pieces are missing or the price is fairly high
Re: Headlight & Wiper Knob Restoration
Did the original emblem have chrome on it or was it only red with black outline?
