Windsheild

Post by Smellslike1974 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 2:38 pm

Anyone know a good place for a windshield?

So far I have been to these sites:

dantes mopar parts-$250
Jims auto parts-$279
psautoglass.com but they don't even have glass for 71-74 b bodies available right now.

That's all i could find.
Someone told me about cutting a sheet of lexan but I don't like that, too artificial and I can for see problems with wipers and the seal.

Got mine from a local glass place (Binswanger)--right around $250 installed...

I don't think you could get lexan to follow the proper curves and look worth a dang, not to mention the wipers as you say!

I was so careful taking my windshield out because I thought it would be expensive to replace. I stored it for over a year with the intention of reinstalling it myself, but one corner of it was clouded. I called a local glass company and they came to my house and installed a new windshield for $170. While they were here,(January) they reinstalled my rear glass and installed trim clips for both front and back. Total bill $288 including tax.

The guys over at Cuda-Challenger.com seem to like Dave at Roseville. Sorry, no link handy.

Are you interested in buying used? I've got a used original, tinted, that I bought at Carlisle years ago. It's been sitting in my garage forever. I can email you photos, and if you ever find yourself on Long Island, you can take it for the price of a nice case of beer. The last reg sticker on is says 1978-1979, so it's pretty clean, perhaps a light chip or two along the edge that would be under the molding anyway. Nice and thick, not like the crap they install today.

Check with the local mobile auto-glass guy that services any decent sized car dealer, the PPG number for a new windshield for these cars is DW776. Took a day to get it in, I paid $120 wholesale for the glass only, at the time they offered to install it for $75 IIRC.

Got my windshield from Binswanger (sp?) just a few weeks ago, $221 installed with a tinted top stripe. one of the older guys came to do it. and he helped me clean a bit of corrosion off the bottom corners after we cleaned it up. we wire brushed it, sealed it and primered then he sealed with new sealant.

it was now that I found the original color of my car, was the white or off-white with green interior originally. Nice job done, I can see again after 40 years of pitting. Now I need to replace the side windows as they are delaminating

Holy crap! I paid $370 back in 2000 for the PPG glass in my '71. It had been sitting up in the shop's warehouse since '84. I've been scared sh%tless to try and pull it out for fear of breaking it.
