Post by 71GTX » Sat May 22, 2010 9:31 pm

Hey folks....I cannot recall....I am putting a 440 in my 71 GTX with a Air Grabber....do I need a special intake/carb setup or just the carb?? The motor is from a 68 300

you need a 70 -72 440 Air Grabber. air cleaner, the 383 one is too tall to use :D

so the intake and the carb do NOT need to be changed to have the Air Grabber function properly?? I believe that I have the 440 air cleaner for it....is there any numbers on it so that I can verify??

no numbers on Air Grabber. air cleaner

.

How to tell 340, 383, 400 and 440 4-barrel Ramcharger and Air Grabber air cleaners apart.

The 383 and 400 engines are shorter than the 340 and 440 engines so the air cleaner base needs to be taller to seal to the hood. The 340 and 440 ones are the same height. You can measure them a couple ways to determine which one you have.

1970-1972

Height from bottom of air cleaner throat to top of crossbar

383/400 - 2 1/2"
340/440 - 2" :D

Any of the stock Hi-pro 4bbl manifolds from the era will work, that said some of the early RB 4bbl manifolds used in non-hi-pro applications had a lower carb mounting compared to the Hi-pro version, you did mentioned a c-body motor. Carb heights pretty uniform even today, should be able to use most any carb.

I guess that the only thing that I am concerned with is the fitting for the air grabber that screws on the intake....I am heading to Michigan in a month or so and most likely doing the swap....I'll figure it out when I get there....
