i would think you could get a stock tach to put in, but then you'd have to replace your other gauges as well...i believe they sell just the tach harness so you could add it to your harness.

It is impossible to install a factory tach in a cluster that did not originally have a tach or clock. The pod for the tach or clock has an opening in it with a screw on cover to allow the installation of the tach or clock. The non-tach/clock clusters do not have this feature.

Would I need to change my drive shaft and could I swap over the Suregrip from my current 741? I'm getting howl from my rear end and would prefer if I have to throw money at it, that it would be better spent putting it back to stock. I see vendors who offer different size yokes.pettyblue72 wrote:The 489 case should be pretty easy to find since they were used in A, B, C and E-Bodies from late 69-74. If you find a good case, new suregrips and ring/pinion sets can pe purchased new.

The suregrip unit from your 741 case can be swapped into a 489 case. You will need the 489 ring and pinion set as well as all the other parts for the 489 case. If the driveshaft in your car is original, the large yoke on a 489 case will work.
