hello everyone i am new around here and i just got My RR a wrrk ago.

my father in law gave me the car and he ordered the car new in 1973 it was a 318 4spd car but it now has a 440 out of a 68 super bee (he thought) and he thought it was a 6 pack motor but it now has a 4 bl carb on it now.

ok i am looking for where the block numbers are so i can find out what the motor really came out of.

here are a few pic's of it.

In your first picture...

on the front of the block, just along the intake PAN rail, there is a pad there. get those numbers.

these will give you the general info on the engine as well as the year.

On the passenger side of the block where the core plugs are there will be numbers cast into the block.

These will give the date and year of manufacture

Also on the same side, down by the oil pan rail, there is a flat machined pad. get those numbers.

this will be part of the VIN code the engine came out of

Ohyeah- Welcome to the nest !!

If it is a 6pak engine it will have a thick harmonic balancer. regular engines have a about a 3/4-1" thick, the 6paks have 1 1/4-1 1/2" thick balancer.

Now if it has a balancer that is thick, but has an offset weight ( one part of the balancer has a lump of extra iron cast in the hub- that is for the 73-up cast cranks.
4th generation B bodys- there is no substitute.
