header question

Post by plyss71 » Sat Jun 20, 2009 3:14 pm

I need some help. I want to put headers on my 71, but it looks like the linkage for the transmission is in the way. My car is an automatic column shifted car. Is there anything else I need to make it work? I already have a set of headers for the car, but I was told there is a different linkage bracket that I need to use them. If so, where do I get it?

hmmm...idk do you have a pic of your steering column/shift linkage? my car was column-shift originally, but since it is unused, i can't really answer your question, but if the bracket that shoots off the column is pointed to the inner fender and not the motor, there shouldn't be a problem.

do you know what brand/model of headers you have? there are footnotes on what options, etc. the headers will fit with, such as manual, auto on floor, auto on column, power steering, etc.

i had the same problem. i solved it by flipping the bracket on the frame and the one on the trans upside down. it took a little tweaking but now it works just fine and i didnt have to cut or fabricate anything. hope it helps
