71 Roadrunner Strobe Stripe install, any tips or ideas?

Post by BarryBum » Tue Mar 17, 2009 9:41 am

My stripe kit will be in this week and I plan on installing it Saturday. Any ideas or tips on installation? Plus, I need a measurement to know exactly where this thing is supposed to go. I've seen some pics where the stripe is closer to the qtr window and some where it is right in the middle.....any ideas on that?

Barry, the end of the stripe is supposed to be centered over the wheel opening. That's the correct placement, which will put the front edge of the stripe about an inch or inch and one half behind the quarter window opening. The folks who center the stripe in the roof pillar are doing it WRONG. If I'm not mistaken, I think I've seen a factory drawing posted here that shows the correct measurement back from the window opening. I'm guessing that it was Eric who posted that pic... Hopefully he'll see this thread and respond. If not, you could PM him.

I have the factory doc somewhere, but Bruce's direction is easier than trying to understand it. Center the stripe over the rear wheel. Be careful where the top and side pieces come together to get consistant spacing between those strobes. I taped down one side of the carrier paper when I got it where I wanted it and rolled the stripe on (and use lots of liquid....glass cleaner worked well for me).

As mentioned above. Three piece decal, major PITA, according to my body guy. Take your time, plenty of sudsy water, and squeegie.

Cake walk compared to the 73/74 stripe, that's a project. I've done both + Rumble Bee stripe on an 01 dakota. Definately agree with the advice though.
