Harmonic Balancer stuck

Post by Confederate1969 » Sun Dec 14, 2008 11:02 pm

Have any of you all experienced a stuck harmonic balancer? Mine is not budging at all. Are there any tips and tricks to getting this sucker off? The engine is seized up completely, so the crank turning is not an issue. I already have the main crank bolt off. Now all that stands between me and the timing gears is this stubborn balancer. I'm afraid of pushing too hard and breaking my tools trying to get this thing off... This is kind of ridiculous. Any ideas on how to go about this?

You can rent a puller from Auto Zone. Pay a deposit which is returned when you return the tool. You don't have to buy parts from them. I rented a puller to get the flywheel off my lawn tractor, felt guilty for not buying parts so I bought some flashlight batteries.
Advance Auto now has loaner tools, not sure if they'll have one you need.
