Trunk light

Post by N96RR1972 » Mon Oct 20, 2008 12:15 pm

Does anyone have a picture or a copy of a diagram that will show me how to route the trunk light in my 1972 Roadrunner? ... THANKS

The wire is routed between the outer and inner trunk lid panels along the driver’s side, exits through a stamped hole near the left hinge. Originally, the wire was left to dangle to the connector in the rear body harness. The wire ties and careful routing along the hinge are not factory correct.

Is it wired to the lock mechanism? If thats the case the wire going to the front only brings the 12 volts to the back? :?

The latch in the picture is an “electric release” version from a later Mopar. The black wire connected to it runs up to the glove box mounted button. The trunk light is not wired in any way to the latch. The power feed for the light in the rear body harness is unswitched or constant 12v. The light socket contains a mercury switch activated by the angle of the deck lid.

Just received the trunk light I won on E-Bay...The wire is not long enough and the metal holder is different from the picture above....Did the Dodge cars use a different one?...I will try to post a picture later...THANKS

This Ebay auction is described as for later Mopars and has the wrong wire color/connector but looks to have the same socket/bracket as our cars. I couldn’t locate a current auction for the correct set-up at this time. I’ll take a look at my Sats, I know they both have trunk lights, I don’t recall what kind of shape they are in. I may be able to spare one if they are any good.

Here are a couple of pics of the one I have.....It is different from the one posted...Anyone know if this is correct? The seller stated it came off a 1972 Roadrunner.

That two filament bulb in your socket doesn’t belong there even if you could get it to fit.
The locking spade connector indicates a late 70’s-early 80’s application.

This is what you’re after. The wire is 80” long.
