engine runs with key in hand

i have a 74 with a 400 in it and replaced the alternator. was running fine, then the alt. shorted and spiked 21 volts. needless to say is i had to replace all the electronics under the hood. now the problem i have is the engine will not die when the key is turned off. everything else shuts down but not the engine. i dont have any burnt wires under the hood or dash. checked all connections and they appear fine.

any suggestions????

Maybe you burned the ignition switch too. good luck!
