for the detail "nuts" regarding wheels...

Post by landon1 » Sat May 24, 2008 12:00 pm

so, just out of curiosity...i thought that my car came with black steel wheels with trim rings and f78X14 tires - wondering if i am, in fact, correct for whenever i get the time and funds to get the satty back to stock (kinda) my problem with my conclusion is that this car was almost maxed-out on options, so why put cop car wheels instead of the (i think) cool looking hubcaps

M/2/6 = wheel lip mouldings - k, so that's taken care of (chrome around openings)

W/12 = 14" or 15" wheels with trim rings and hubcaps

W/2/5 = trim rings

T34 = F78X14 WSW fiber tires - what does WSW mean? white sidewall?

Ok, I assume you're looking at your broadcast sheet for these codes?
Look on line 4, in the middle. You'll see 4 boxes, 3 under "wheels"; "road", "color", and "spare" and a 4th to the right "wheel cover". What codes are in each of these boxes?
Then go down to the last line and look at the "W" box. There are 5 boxes in it. What number(s) are in these boxes?

Line 4 Wheels - Road: 99
Color: TX9 (that's black, i do believe)
Spare: 00
Wheel Cover: 24

Line 11Wh/Cov - Covers or delete: 12
Wheels 2-: 5

i know i've decoded all of these before, i thought, but couldn't come up with anything on the wheels

Hmm...interesting

99 - special order wheel
TX9 - black painted wheel face (typical of full hubcap cars)
00 - same spare as other 4 wheels
24 - trim ring

W12 - hub cap w/trim ring (dog dishes with trim rings)
2-:5 - I assume this is W25? - this would designage heavy duty for 1970.....

Is your car optioned with a trailer towing package?

nope...it was an early build car, though August 20th of 1970 i believe....had all the chrome - wheel lip, door top, quarter window and full top (painted white roof)...other than that, it was a typical satellite sebring...deluxe bench interior, 318 2bbl with 904 column shift and light group...i can't imagine a car that was loaded with the chrome and 2-toned blue and white, with white stripe tires having cop car wheels...maybe ordered that way cuz they assumed it would just be getting mags on it...
