Question about rims

What do part #s and other stampings on rims stand for? I was looking at 71440bee's post in parts for sale and made me think. I had 4 15" rallye rims for my car but gave 2 away way back when i was a kid.

Were they #ed as a set? Did the # have any relation to the car it came from or factory?

People who are building a car with all the correct dates look for date codes on the rims, like a month/year. 71440bee lives about 30 minutes from me, and has sold many parts, so I'd trust him.
