Water Pump

Post by beepx2 » Wed Mar 19, 2008 11:37 am

Now that the weather is getting warm, my 383 will start to run real hot. I've already added a new radiator and installed an electric fan. I plan to get the Milodin thermostat from Summit. What I need now, is some suggestions for a high capacity water pump. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. :help:

are you sure your gauge isn't messed up? replace the sender and then see??? mine wasn't working right, so i put an add-on gauge in and it was fine...then that gauge said i was beyond overheating, like 285, so i replaced the sender and hooked the factory gauge back up and now it works alright - i'm right in the middle...otherwise, they sell little propellers (i think flow-kooler or milodon) that mount on the shaft, which is another option, they sell pumps that are supposed to flow 33% more and then you add the prop if you want more flow

The pump impeller is different on an a/c car vs non a/c.Of course I am talking about the 383.But the a/c impeller used less hp to drive. I always replaced my pump with an ac waterpump even thou I dont have a/c. They are interchangeable. 8)

I assume you have a 4 core radiator? I've had a couple of these big block cars, and I find a 4-core and a Hayden Flex fan work wonders, and I'm in Florida! Never needed anything fancy for a water pump.
