71 runner option questions

Post by 71srt » Sat Mar 15, 2008 10:07 pm

I had a similar post on moparts.
The question was about having the turn signals on the fenders.

The car was:
383
AC
Cruise
auto
hood pins
fender mounted turn signals.

Someone had mentioned that this combo (signals) was only on air grabber.

Can anyone lend some insight?

Fenders appear to be original, due to paint runs from fender onto core support.
thanks

On standard hood (non A/G) cars the outside turn sigs. were mounted on the hood.

My car has the hood mounted turn signals. There are more cars with the fender ones but not so many with the hood mounted ones. :)

Welcome to the 'nest
You've read my comments on moparts....standard Satellite and air grabber cars had fender mounted turn signals, standard roadrunner/GTX hood cars had them hood mounted. I've only seen one exception to that, a very early build car that was probably an assembly line mistake.

since I am lacking build sheet info,
does anyone know the early 71 runner vin #'s. Perhaps this was an early build car.

Also,
I assume it was not possible to have air grabber and AC, correct?

thanks

does your car have the stock front clip? if so it would be easy to tell (if there aren't holes in your fenders, they would be on the hood...i'm also assuming by having hood/fender signals, you have the light package (A01)

from your vin i thought you could determine date of production - maybe not (i have my broadcast sheet too) wish i had my vin on me, cuz mine was early (aug of 70) - my thinking is that sequence number could determine aprox. build date

My old 71 Runner A/G car did NOT have fender mounted T/S....Never seen any mounts on the fenders either when I removed them for rust repair....

the turn signal indicators were not standard, but if the car was optioned for them (L31) they would have been fender mounted

if your car still has a fender tag that's the easiest way to determine when it was built.
