SEM easily scratched for a while after application?

Post by billzilla » Sun Feb 10, 2008 9:17 pm

I sanded my badly-chalked lower door panels today and applied the cleaner prep and sand-free prep before putting on a fairly decent coat of Landau Black from SEM today.

Is it normal for the harder plastics to be very easily scratched (paint comes off with just a slight scrape) for the first few hours? I know SEM says 24 hours before subjecting the surfaces to heavy use or abrasion...

Yea man............you can't just start beating on it..............ever. That is the bad thing about the hard plastic stuff. You really have to be careful and not scuff it. Keep you an extra can to touch it up. The soft material does good as it actually dyes it.......hard plastic stuff is more or less just coated in it..............so it will come off.

So will it always be like fingernail-scuffable like that? If so, yuck. I might as well just bite the bullet and get black lower panels.
