Press photos, articles etc.

Post by 1972RM23 » Thu Oct 25, 2007 10:04 pm

I am going to start posting some of my collection of 1971 1972 press photos, articles and other stuff I have.
This is a test.
Can I get permission to add these into the correct forum areas were they probably should be placed (it says I need moderator permission).

It's hard to tell, is that the same car in the color photo and the magazine article? Looks like it could be?
A few interesting things....
- I don't remember ever seeing a red interior in a 71 or 72 runner before!
- looks like it has 71 wheel center caps....wonder how many early 72 cars came through with these
- looks like the 72 +6 cars (at least this one) did not get the GTX emblems
- it has the somewhat rare front bumper guard
- look how close the strobe stripe is to the quarter window

I'd sure love to find that car! Thanks for sharing.

It's red ... though they did offer black with orange inserts for 1971 RR's.
It can't be burnt orange also ... 1970 Dodge interior.

Neither red nor orange was listed as an available interior color option in the 72 color trim selector, so this one is an anomaly...

Now if you want an anomaly ... look at the interior again it's got a red steering whhel, door panels and package shelf.
I swear i had a shot of the interior somewhere.

I guess you cant always trust those old advertisements. In this ad...

Image

It says under the pic of the car in the air "Plymouth Roadrunner gets airborne. Even though the 440 6 pack is an option in this car, it is not the motor making it fly in this picture". That is the same pic I have.

Image

The reason I'm posting that is because in the pic I have you can easily read the plate on the car which is the same as the one in the 440-6 story. In the caption under the pic I got they mention they gave it a one page article in the april '72 issue and the 400/auto car ran 14.95 in the quarter.

So my question is did they just use any old stock press photos when doing this stuff? Oh btw awesome eyes there Eric.. in the cation under the pic I just posted they point out the '71 center wheel caps as well.

I noticed the 71' Center caps on the 72' haha. I think they make the car flow better than the factory 72' caps.
