71 GTX wheels
Does anyone know what wheels came standard on the 71 GTX? I can't read the box on the broadcast sheet that lists wheel type. It does list the wheel color as GK6 which is the same as the body color. This would lead me to believe it had steel wheels. If it came with steel wheels, what hub caps would have come on it? It also lists the tires as 14" polyglas.
Don't use the wheels on my car as your model! Those are later model cop car wheels. I'm sure Dave will know for sure, but I think if your GTX came with wheel covers it's most likely the conical shaped covers with holes around the perimeter. Just like what came on my car ORIGINALLY and I don't care for. But Dave LOVES. Wait a minute, did Dave put you up to this? Is this really a joke?
I'm GUESSING a GTX could have also come with the optional "wire" wheel covers... Dave? Anybody? Bueller?

Boy, I totally forgot about this post from back in october. I have since found a broadcast sheet in my car underneath the rear driver's side carpet. Very poor condition, but all of the important stuff is there. I was able to decipher that my 440-6 GTX came with the 14x6 body color steel wheels with the (T93) G70x14 raised white letter polyglas tires and plain brushed aluminum dog dish caps with no lettering on them.

The build date for may car was August 19, 1970-that's pretty early isn't it? Anyway, it says 14" heavy duty steel wheels with trim rings and center caps. I just always assumed it would have been the dog dish cop car wheels. There are a few pics of cars with them in the image gallery that are painted black like mine.
What we all refer to as cop car wheels would not be correct for your car. The cop car wheels come from later years IIRC and have cutouts in them for brake cooling. If yours had trim rings and dog dish centers, the wheels would have been plain steel wheels.
There are 3 types of dog dish centers that are similar. The 70 ones with the Plymouth Division printing, the plain ones (correct for most 71s), and the cop centers that have small holes all the way around them.
