Hi everyone..just picked up a 1972 road runner. The 400 went out the window and a 75 440 was stuffed inside with an automatic. The car has a an Air grabber hood..just wondering how many were produced that year w/ Air grabber? any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to this site. 72 RR, great car so we'll need pictures. I don't know the total amount produced with the air grabber, but not nearly enough. I'm always on the lookout for a 72.

Real 72 Air Grabber cars are very uncommon. Actual production numbers have not been published online that I know of. Give me a few minutes with a calculator and I might be able to come up with a rough guesstimate.

Alright - around 1957 Air Grabber RRs and GTXs were shipped to US dealerships for the 1971 model year. That gives an installation rate of around 12%. If we apply that same installation rate to the 1972 RRs and RRGTXs, with 6831 cars shipped to US dealerships, that gives just over 800 cars. I am willing to bet with the decrease in HiPo cars due to skyrocketing insurance rates, that the installation rate was easily less in 1972 than in 1971 - say 10% or less. That would put Air Grabber production at 700 cars or less. So pretty few and far between!
