At least one of our members has done this. Check out this thread.

While photobucket hosting has made the photos unviewable, you could PM him...maybe he'll post more.

If I remember correctly, that car had major, major work done. It was beautiful inside and out, but an incredible amount of chassis work was performed to get it to where it's at. Thing was a work of art!
I love the look. If you're seriously talking slammed, the best I can recommend is keep stock style manifolds, tuck the exhaust tight, and stock oil pan for max clearance.

As great of a build the the "pro-runner" is. My budget would never be close to even think of that much modifaction. But That does not stop me from dreaming.

When I got an alignment several years ago, I had the mechanic lower the front end. A couple of days ago, I was thinking that I should probably get some new shocks, as they are very old. As I was under the car, I noticed that the frame (rail) was all the way down to the rubber bump stops. I think I may have gone too low.

I know it rides so much better than the stock height they originally had it. But yeah, up a little. The header pipes are less than four inches off the ground.

My car is low in the front, too. However, I compensated with a taller tire to fill the wheel well. Still looks low and helps keep the important bits from hitting the ground. Roads are rough where I live...Lots of major potholes, suspension bottoming dips, etc.
It's either style or function. Unfortunately that cool look is at the expense of our undercarriages. I haven't measured, but my low-hanging oil pan had been dented/scuffed once or twice down a rough gravel driveway. I have to carefully choose my route to cruise-ins!

I have heard more than a 2" drop and you will have driveline tunnel clearance problems. Can anyone confirm this? I'd like to drop mine about 2-4".

That one is a little tough to answer directly. Are you talking about utilizing factory suspension or going with aftermarket stuff?

Mostly factory, or at least the factory style suspension. I was thinking flip the spring mounts in the rear and either aftermarket leaf springs, or possibly a 1" lowering block. 2" drop spindles up front.

That was my thoughts too. Budget price, to get about the same results...

I think your plans sound plenty safe. Anything lower you gotta start getting creative. I'm not the master of this, so this is just general bouncing of ideas. I've never used drop spindles, but 2" is pretty safe on stock fronts without really messing with steering geometry too much.
In the back, assuming you already took wheel offset and tire diameter into account...Your current distance from the axle tubes to the bump stops would be a good start on what kind of drop you can achieve (with fudge factor so you're not riding on them, or modify the stops, etc.).
Second is pinion angle and how close to the floor you can get without banging it. I'd think an adjustable pinion snubber could be handy to still allow maximum suspension travel while lowered and still keep the driveshaft off the floor if you hammer on it.
That was my problem, ride height and cruising was fine, but under power my driveshaft would rub the floor. I've gotta overhaul my suspension here, but my new rear tires are going to be close to 30" in diameter, so I'm gonna really have to drop the back to get it where I want. I'm also not interested in chopping my car up.
