Guess it's time for an update.

Hadn't done anything to the car since I dragged it home last fall until the past month or so... but I recently squared a few things away & made some time to start on the old bird.

Been removing the rest of the old driver's side floor pan that needed to come out so the new pan sections can be installed.

Got the toeboard out all the way to the firewall pinch weld:

Finally got the last piece of the rear seat footwell out today:

That section was tough because it's a 3-piece overlap on the ends and there are a few seam welds to deal with.

Next I'll need to get things cleaned up and prepped, test fit the new pan, etc. I'm new at sheet metal work so I'm going slow & taking my time, trying to learn as I go. There will be mistakes but I have to start from where I'm at.

Been a minute since I updated.

Got everything cleaned up, coated with with POR15 where applicable, welded up holes from where spot welds had been drilled out, treated the frame rails with "interior frame rail coating", welded the new pans in after a lot of in-and-out fitment, hammering and trimming etc.

Finally finished up tonight, got it all seam sealed up. Next weekend it should go to my body man for new quarters and some rust repair around the trunk opening lip. Rather have a pro do that, since I just bought a welder & taught myself how to weld this summer on the floor pans. Figured that was the place to learn and get some experience.

Long way to go, but no more Flintstone-mobile! One thing at a time. One day at a time.

I am doing the same thing, just learning how to weld - so working on the drivers floor pan, engine compartment, small patch in the trunk pan - before I move to the exterior portions of the car. Looks like you did pretty good with the floor pan. Good luck! Scott.

Could I add your vehicle to the 1971 Plymouth B Body registry?

With the car at the body shop, I started disassembling the motorhome 440 I picked up for it last fall... only have about 20 minutes in on it, having to squeeze it in between other projects before work :D

Belated Welcome to the board.
Nice to see new projects going. I particularly like that custom 4 speed hole in the tunnel before you started the repair.

Hey, thanks!

Yes, I hated to have to mess up one of the PO's sweet mods like that but on the other hand it was a good excuse to go for a manual shifter hump 8)

Car was originally of the 383/727 column shift bench seat variety. Heading toward being the 440 bucket seat floor shift variety.
