Where'd this come from?!

Image

Why is there SNOW in my garage? And a car with a strobe stripe?!

Image

My Road Runner doesn't have a strobe stripe!

Image

Say hello to Lt. Dan of Virginia, the happy new owner of my old Road Runner…

Image

And he let me keep the chrome Torque Thrusts that Bobbie bought for me a several years ago at Carlisle.

Time to write a new Road Runner chapter just for Bobbie. This one a simple 383 car with A/C and an automatic. Let's go for a cruise!

I DO love the '72 grille for sure! But this '71 is what Dan had to trade and I was happy to take it. Have been wanting an old Mopar to build for Bobbie for years, and I really thought it would end up being a '72 and up E-Body. But now we have one we can BOTH dig. :D

So who else has seen a '71 B-body with a BROWN interior? I'm not talking the tan color everybody refers to as baby poo, I'm talking CHOCOLATE brown seats and lower door panels and dark brown deluxe uppers with the baby poo tan inserts. Anybody? I've never seen one like what this car has. Not saying I actually LIKE it, just wondering whether anybody has seen one.

My interior is what I would call brown, but maybe it's baby poo? Do you have any pics of the interior?

My 71 GY8 Gold SSP has a P6T7 Tan interior. I think that is as tan/brown as they come. The bottom door panels have faded in the sun - but the vinyl sure is poop brown. Yes, I am crazy, I am going to keep it brown.

Yep, that's the color! Put the deluxe upper door panels on it with gold/tan inserts and that's what my Road Runner has. And look, your Satellite has the arm rest like my Road Runner has too! Your Satellite a St. Louis car?

Basic plan is this, to build a car that is a BETTER quality restoration than the previous car as well to make a car that neither my wife or I are afraid to jump in and take a LONG road trip to a show or wherever. So if we keep the 383 in the car it's going to get EFI. I'd like to put the A/C back on it and get it working too.

OR, if it works out, I'd really like to do a late model Hemi swap. A 6.4 would be ideal! Keep the A/C there too of course. Add a nice stereo and we'll be set.

Bobbie and I were sitting on the couch the other day looking at the 1971 Satellite line brochure and talking about interiors. She likes the black and white cloth, and I liked the sound of that as far as comfort on a HOT southern summer day. So interior choice is settled... go from a car with the black and orange interior to a car with the black and white. I can dig it!

We're still debating exterior colors. First choice out of Bobbie's mouth was black. These cars do look great in black, but I worry about the bodywork needed to make a black car look great. Of course it would get the black reflective strobe, rear wing and chin spoilers. But a huge part of me is saying to keep it white. There would be so much symmetry in that--I mean, I've ALWAYS had a white Road Runner in my garage. If it goes white it'll get the reflective black strobe as well. And I'll debate adding the wing and spoilers then cuz I don't want to look EXACTLY like Dale Matthews' car! :D

And along comes this to make things even more interesting... I've always wanted an EV2 car. :D

And notice how close this Satellite was to the old Road Runner!

Whelp, not gonna get the EV2 car. I thought it was going to be a parts car for the Road Runner, but it is WAY too nice. Great fenders, doors and quarters. And around 112,000 miles on the clock. It will make somebody a really great Road Runner wannabe, and already EV2! My buddy who has it isn't all that eager to sell it, and hopes he can move a truck he has for sale in order to keep this Satellite.

Yep, Bruce - it's a St. Louis car. Originally titled in Missouri, and made its way to South Dakota very early in its life.
