Trade 68' GTX for 71' Satellite Sebring, 383 4bbl?

Post by 71340 » Sat Aug 03, 2013 6:41 am

My friends are telling me I'm crazy to even consider this.... any thoughts?

I have a 68" GTX survivor, all original in nice shape and have had for 10 years....its been a good car. I have a chance to work out a trade with a guy selling a 71" SSP, 383, 4bbl auto :help: in nice shape. Part of this is the sentimental value of the SSP as I had one back in the day.

Does anyone have any production numbers on these SSPs? I can't seem to find anything. I don't know how it performs with that low compression 383....havent driven it yet.

Any thoughts or feedback would be helpful to me with this possibility. I don't know what type of deal would be worked out. The cars are in about the same shape and originality. I do realize the GTX has a higher $ value.

If it were me...
I would not trade off the survivor 68 GTX. They are way too hard to come by in that condition. 1971 SSP's come along every once in a while, even the 383 cars. Plus, you can usually pick them up for a relatively good price still these days. Just my 2c.

I do not know #s for the 383/4bbl combination, but I can tell you there were 10,700 SSPs built during the 71 model year.
I would find it very difficult to trade a survivor for anything. To find an original car in good condition just isn't that common.
AKA Butterscotch71....the road runner nest is out to win you over this year!Image

Thanks for the feedback. Sometimes cars can be more emotional than logical. I really love the SSP because it's a sleeper and I never seen one at the shows I go to, but I've seen many GTXs. I also had one earlier in life and sometimes that factors in. Maybe it's boredom after having the car for 10 yrs as well.

If I were to do it, it would have to be my car plus I would have to get some money for it along with the SSP. My friend had a 71 RR and it ran pretty well if my memory is working. His had 3.23 and despite the 8.5 compression still well well.

Thanks !
