71 X

Post by brock » Mon Jul 15, 2013 8:31 pm

I have been a long time lover of MoPars! New here. Hello!

I have worked on the same 71 GTX through 4 owners over a span of 32 years.
This is how it looked back in the early 80s:

We didn't pay attention to numbers matching details so much back then. Now it has received
it's correct green color - once stripped of everything, checked on a frame machine (strait as
can be) then placed on a rotisserie.

Of course these are just highlights.
The photo album can be seen here:

Money has run out, so the car is simply being put back together for the purpose of selling it.

Any comments & advise are greatly appreciated!

I believe you are correct about the Westerns. That car really looked good in white. With those tires &
wheels, it had a nice rake to it. It's a 66 cast 440 RHS shortblock w/ all the correct 71 parts on it - the
strongest 440 I've ever driven on the street 8) The rest of it is correct numbers matching triple green
bucket seat console car - so the decision was made to put it back to original.

Also, thanks Mopardog!

Brock,

that's pretty much what i'm building. '67 block .040 over...all 440 source stuff (i'm doing an experiment), I bought the car in boxes...

I'm going original tawny gold metallic (GY9), I haven't decided on the stripe set I want (side pin? Thick thin thick hood to fender??...I just don't know) . It was a vinyl top car, so i deleted that, and deleted the rockers. i'm going clean stock apprearance. Painted cop rallyes to start, but year one's 17" rallyes are calling my name...

The original Tawney Gold was so common in 71 & 72 - but who remembers what it really looks like?
It seemed to fade into what most remember as bleack. I'm NOT picking on you as I have a 72 Charger
in that same color. I have seen a few restored in GY9 that really make you think AWESOME
As for stripes, I would have to go with the black. If it's a GTX.....to me: there were no acceptable
factory stripes available & Road Runner, while really cool, don't belong. I recommend a custom
strobe of 4 bars from the hood callout scoop to the top of the wheelwell - front to back in their
orientation of course.
Rock that badboy on

This 1 has to go though. It will take a lottery ticket for it to stay......help me find a good home
for it :)
