New Guy from Kentucky

Post by KentuckyBlueBird » Wed Jun 26, 2013 5:00 pm

First off I wanna commend you guys on here for your knowledge and details about these Roadrunners, GTXs and Satellites! Very impressive. My parents owned a 72 Roadrunner when I was born in 1979, and my dad has been a Mopar nut all my life. Mostly owning and racing 69 Roadrunners all my life. Nothing wrong with the 2nd year Plymouth but needless to say I was a little burned out on the body style. Last fall my parents travelled to Florida and stopped somewhere in Tennessee and bought a 71 Roadrunner with a parts car. When they made it back to Kentucky and I seen the beast in my dad's paint shop I quickly told my dad I had to have it. I love the 71 body style with a passion, and eneded up buying the cars off my dad this past March. It's not complete yet but the blue is going on slowly and the bumpers have been rechromed and a lot of new pieces have been ordered. I'm really glad I picked up the July issue of Mopar Muscle and seen the black 71 RR from Florida in it and the story about the 71 Satellite found in the junkyard that led me to the Roadrunner Nest. I have read some of the tech issues on here and you guys have already helped me out big time. Thanks again :D

Eric you helped out a lot by telling someone about R/T Specialties. I had never ordered from them but they had the scoop screws and taps for my car and some other small stuff that will come in handy soon

Welcome to the Nest! Post up some pics of the car. We don't care what shape it's in, we LOVE to see them in all conditions and colors. :D

I'll get right on it Bruce just as soon as I load some pictures on photobucket or is there another way to post them on here without using photobucket? I have a few pictures on Facebook if anybody has FB on here. I am really hoping to have it done by the first of August to drive it to the Nats.

Yeah, you can add photos on here without using Photobucket. Just click on the "Upload attachment" you see below where you type your reply to this... Then browse your computer for the image and add the file, like so! :D

I'm also on Facebook--Bruce Anliker--look me up and friend me there. Um, NOT the teacher in North Dakota. Yeah, can you believe with a name like mine there are TWO of us?!

So far the hood, driver side door and trunk are all painted. I bought my gull wing from Dale's Cuda Shop, replaced both bumpers and the chrome driver side mirror and new door handles. New package tray with the cut outs, new rubber for the doors and the roofrail rubber. New rubber stops for the doors, glove box, hood, ashtray, etc. New rubber and felt " cat whiskers" for the doors. I have to admit that I did buy an after market Roadrunner head to go in the grill and it is poorly painted and metal. I usually go to Somernites Cruise, (a huge car cruise here in Kentucky, every 4th Saturday of every month). I was hoping when I bought my 71 that it would at least be road ready by May to drive to Somernites Cruise, That's Mopar Mania and Don Garlits was there this year. I wasn't about to pack my trunk around all day to have him sign it so I had him sign my glove box door. It's coming together pretty good so far

Thanks guys for the warm welcome to The Nest. Bruce I tried looking you up earlier on FB and it only popped one guy off from Iowa.
Road Chicken, I didn't have to twist my dad's arm too much, he loves the 69 RoadRunners which was a huge benefit for me :haha:

Yeah, that's the young Iowa/North Dakota teacher Bruce Anliker. We're bound to be related since my dad had a brother up in that area, but I'm not sure just how far down the "cousin" list he would be...
