gas needle not working

hey guys, before i had my car painted, my gas needle was working fine. now after the paint job, the oil meter above it is working fine, but the gas needle isnt. i filled up thinking i was on E, but no. can there be a wire maybe the painter removed or messed up bc i see a wire in the middle of the trunk floor thats cut. im wondering if thats the pronblem
can anybody help me with this

Would that wire be blue and the other end goes through to fuel tank?

Check the ground and lead wire from fuel tank. One of them is probably disconnected.

Yep, there is a wire that goes through the trunk floor that is usually blue like rradar71 said. That wire goes to the sending unit on your gas tank. If it is cut, that is why your gas needle does not work. Scott.

the wire is now a gold colored wire now!!
it sits directly in the middle of the trunkl. can that be it?

Check to see if this ground strap in on the fuel line at the tank. This ground makes contact with the fuel tank and the metal gas line, bypassing the rubber connecting hose. If this is missing, gage no worky.

Yes, the wire that goes down through the bottom of the trunk floor is the wire that goes to the sending unit on the gas tank. Like Uppy says - make sure the ground strap is also installed correctly. The strap completes the electrical circuit for the sending unit. Scott.
