Give me some direction please.

Post by JeffL » Tue Jan 22, 2013 10:58 pm

Hello to all. New to the board. My son and I plan on "fixing" our 71 Roadrunner up. Basically want a car to drive during the nice weather here in Ohio. Car shows, weekends. etc. Looking for some direction as to which way to go with the car. Not in any hurry. Don't have huge amounts instant money, but we are willing to take the time we need to put a little in it at a time. I have a 383 and a 413, both need rebuilt. Take a look at the pictures. Tell me what YOU would do with the car if it was yours. I decoded the fender tag, but would like someone here to decode it also. Thanks to all for your input.

Picture size must be too big. It is not showing all the image. I apologize.

Hey Jeff, great looking project there. Definitely looks like it was ridden hard and put up wet! Haha. As for my vote - I would say put it back close to original. That car has got a lot of great options and will look great in its original B5 Blue exterior, white and black interior, and its white canopy top. It came from the factory with a 383, so I would throw the one you have right in there. If you have any questions about your car, or need help with any of the codes, just ask. There are a lot of very knowledgible folks on this site that can help you out. Good luck with whatever you decide! Scott.

Thanks for your reply. What would the light package and decor package include? There are four holes on the drivers side quarter panel, anybody know what those are for? What would the exhaust tips look like? Standard or chrome? Sorry for all the questions. Seems to have a few cool options.

Hey Jeff,
The previous thread on the A01 Light package is here:
http://www.roadrunnernest.com/forum/vie ... a01#p30029

Here is a good thread on the V21 hood treatment and the A87 Decor package:
http://www.roadrunnernest.com/forum/vie ... cor#p32638

The search tool is a wonderful thing. Lots of good info on this site.

Nice! How would I build it? The 383 with AC, B5 blue with the white interior and white canopy top. Just me but I'd add a white strobe stripe over the roof, and then drive and enjoy!

The holes in the quarterpanel are for the roadrunner emblems.

If your car came with the strobe stripes, the roadrunner was part of the decal. Check out the picture thread for all the different placements on 71 and 72 runners.

Welcome to the Nest!
Looks like a nice project. The N41 code only indicates dual exhaust. N42 would indiate brite exhaust tips. Your car, would have had turn down exhaust from the factory.

Super, I think I prefer the basic turn down tips. Just my preference.

With no tips and the A87 package, you'll have this blackout on your bumper/valance too (tip cars with A87 have the blackout too, but the valance also has half round cutouts for the tips)

Since your car is not coded for the strobe stripe, this is what you should have on your quarter panels over the wheel (both sides)

Brother, you have come to the right place when it comes to these cars, The guys on this site are the best! Very nice project car, looks to be in decent shape,I think a chevy guy owned it because the engine bay should always be the car color, not black! also I would suggest going to a few car shows and taking detailed pictures and do a photo gallery so you can get Ideas, I always go to the All Chrysler Nationals to get parts and Ideas, and got tons of photos so when i reassemble mine. Good luck.

You have a great project there. I love the color combo and options. I am restoring a 71 Duster 340 now. Be prepared to spend another $30,000 on your car if you do a nut and bolt. I will have more than that in my Duster when done. How do I justify that? Well I love the car and plan on keeping it. Your car looks like a keeper also. Good Luck!
