1971 GTX St. Louis Production

Post by Uppy » Thu Oct 25, 2012 2:44 pm

Hey everyone, great site. New guy here and have questions about my newly aquired GTX. Does anyone have/know the production figures for St. Louis? I have heard only 29 GTX's came out of that plant. My GTX has a build date of January 4, 1971. It seems that this was the first GTX made in 71 at that plant if those build numbers are correct. Any info on finding this out would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible to find out how many white with blue interior GTX's were made? Thanks again for any help.

I don't know the plant by plant breakdown, but I doubt that number is correct. I've owned two St. Louis built 71 GTXs, one of which was a four speed curious yellow export car. Both were U code 440s.

I don't have the fender tag info for either one handy, but I'll check later.

Where did you get your information?

Model year production starts the 1st of August 1970 for 1971 model years cars.
The majority of 1971 GTX's were produced at the St Louis plant.

1971 GTX's w/ 440 4bbl
2,538 made in total
327 4-speeds
2,211 autos

There would be no breakdowns with both color of exterior and interior (the breakdown don't include multiple combinations).
There should be breakdowns for exterior color GTX's and for interior blue buckets but they are not listed on this site

Thanks guys, the info was from a friend who owns a 1971 GTX. He said that was info from Galen Govier. Not sure about that, was going to order some stuff from him regarding the GTX but he isn't taking orders right now. Has anyone ordered anything from him?

That number might reflect a specific configuration, but it's certainly not representative of all st louis gtx production.

Welcome aboard by the way.

Please post a new topic and tell us about your car. Pictures would be a bonus.

You might want to look on the moparts forum and read some of the stuff other people have to say about Govier.Seems things may not be what they appear to be regarding him.

Galen gives you a number of cars in his registry.
That is where the 29 built at the plant.
He breaksdown all know cars in his registry with engine and trans options from each plant built.
So that is not a really production number but a Galen registry figure.

Out of the 260 GTXs I have in my database for 1971, 220 were built in St Louis....a very high percentage.

Hello All,
I just purchased a 1971 Plymouth GTX. It's a B5 True Blue color. It's door sticker says manufactured in August 1970, so it's early build from the St Louis plant. It's a standard 440 automatic car.
I'm trying to find out color production figures for it. The only numbers I know are 2211 total 440 automatic cars were shipped.
Any help out there?

Welcome to the nest. Unfortunately we do not have color numbers for GTXs individually only for the full Satellite line. They can be seen here.

New to the board, thanks for the welcome! This appears to be a pretty sleepy board overall. Lol
