significant GTX at Carlisle

Post by Eric » Mon Jul 09, 2012 10:22 am

I was surprised to see this car show up in the survivor's tent. We saw it cruise in from a distance and only noticed that it was a blue/black top 71 GTX. When we got to the end of the survivor's tent, I found myself standing in front of a 1 of 11 HEMI 4spd survivor. Of the 12 1971 HEMI GTX cars I have in my records this one has the latest scheduled build date (about 3 weeks before end of 71 model year production). Even better, as I read the description of the car, I realized it had under 50K miles and was still in the care of the original owner! It was recently pulled from 20 year storage, and Gary has an interesting story how he came to own this car over 40 years ago. It was optioned from the factory as you see it now, and it's been very well cared for over the years.
I told Gary about our website, and hopefully he'll join us. Unfortunately, I didn't get the best photos, as lighting under the tent and the car's placement made it difficult.
....enjoy

Hi Eric,
I wanted to scope out your websight to see what it is like and I wound up joining. I want to thank you and Dave and the others for all of the interest you took in my car. I was totally overwhelmed by the interest everyone took. You told me alot of things that I had no clue about and I will be talking about you guys when I go back to work tommorrow. The pictures are totally fantastic you did a great job. I did not expect to see them on line, especially so soon. I enjoyed the company that you all gave to me and I will not forget my Carlisle experience because of you and other people like you. Thanks alot and I am glad you enjoyed the car.
By the way, the Die Cast guy came by on Saturday and said he will try to do the car hopefully he said sometime in 2014.
Thanks again Eric,
Gary

Welcome to the Nest Gary. It's great to have someone on here who's taken care of one of these cars for over 40 years. I'm sure our members would love to hear about your experiences with the GTX over the years.

Gary,
Me and my father-in-law spoke with you for about 15 minutes on Friday. What an awesome car. I loved the story you told us about how you discoverd you were the owner of something special. Hope the tow home to New England was good and safe.

Hi Ken,
I am sorry that I don't remember what you look like, I talked with so many people that day, but thank you for your kind words and vote of safety on my way home. The straps on the trailer did in fact loosen up and the car shifted on me in Northern P.A. I wasn't sure until someone pulled along side of me and told me. He stayed behind me until I could safetly pull over and make it right, he also pulled behind me and protected the car with his. Everyone on the road was very curtious and willing to give me all the room I needed. I hope that I was able to put a smile on your face as you and everyone else did to me. Again, it was a memorable trip for me. Thank you all.

Welcome Gary,
Wow, what an amazing car! I wish I could have made it to Carlisle this year. I knew I would miss out on something SIGNIFICANT!! Eric was kind enough to forward a quick picture to me over the weekend though! I hope you enjoy the 'Nest!! It really is the Premier Site for the 71-74 Plymouth B-bodies! A LOT of knowledge on this site.

Jeff
