Speaking of Junkyard Roadrunners......

Post by Tom » Tue May 01, 2012 9:18 pm

I happened to stumble across a couple of them today in South Carolina.

The most notable being a 1971 RR 383, 4 speed car. Been a long long time since I saw a 4 speed car in a JY. I had my son take some pics of the car, to include the fender tag....(which I did leave)

I did purchase the Rallye dash with tach out of the car.

We are still out on the road, doing a couple days of junk yarding. When we get home, I'll see if I can get a few pictures of the car posted. Resurrecting It would be a huge undertaking....one far beyond my skills, financial means, and patience.

I had a pretty busy schedule worked out for the day, so my attention to detail was not keen. Not even sure if the car had a rear end in it....I talked to the yard manager and he did say that they are willing to sell whole cars. He could not give me a price at that time, he would have to look at the car himself before quoting a price...The Rallye dash set me back $200, so I would not expect the car to be particularly cheap.

Love the gold with gold strobe stripe cars! Looks like it would take a lot to save that one. Thanks for the fender tag photo!

A name would be great is right....a bit of a drive from where I am, but I think that a road trip might play out....

Yep.....Temples is the place.
As far as making a road trip to go there.......do that because you want to enjoy a half day walking around the yard admiring all the old dilapidated cars.....not because you expect to bring home a nice haul of good parts at bargain prices.

The years have not been kind to most of the cars. In my opinion....there is very little good to be had. I was looking for a passenger fender and drivers door.......did not see any that were worth buying. These cars have been picked over and exposed to the elements for 25+ years...........don't go there with high expectations.
