I will keep that in mind. It should be easier since i have the whole thing and will document the disassembly. Thanks.

The weather gave us a little opportunity to get the blasting done.
Rain started just before we could get everything done but did get the shell done.

This thread is definately helping me out. I have to replace the passenger quarter panel due to a wreck it was in back in 76' and they fill the big ding with body fill. No rust but lots of holes from them trying to pop it out.

My 71' is curious yellow too lol. Just to give me an idea, how much did you pay for the sandblasting or did you do that yourself?

Hi
I usually transport my cars to a local sandblasting company. Unfortunately he has called it quits. At 77 years old I would too!
This is the first one I have had done by this person , he did a good job considering the weather conditions.
He did this car and a load of small parts for $300.00 which is a great deal considering most large companies are at the 400.00 to 600.00 range.
This was underside only no outer body panels.

Having done a little large scale outdoor sandblasting like this, I can tell you this is money well spent to have someone else do it!

I plan on having my car blasted as well. Wow! Only 300? I was expecting something like that from most companies to be in the 1000-1500 range.

Remember there was no undercoat and all the floor pans were new.
So really all that was blasted was the engine comp, frame rails and what was left of the original floor.
So it was fairly easy blast.

We're getting down to priming the underside and was thinking. Full underside body color or factory primer and color overspray?
Opinions?

Now into the part I like the least when doing a car, the grinding and pit filling on the underside.
Still a little to do but through the worst of it.
Should be ready to prime later this week.

After cleaning my original hood I found it is beyond repair.
I did locate a Satellite hood that is going to be a doner hood replacement for my air grabber.
While comparing the two hoods side by side I found an odd thing on my hood, the area where your hand go's in to open is not punched out.
Anyone with a original have this too? Or just a mistake in the stamping?
Anyway the undersides are very close to matching other than the box area in the right corner of this picture is not present in the Sat hood, we will add it and a small structure hole is oval instead of round in my original.Image

We started transfering the holes tonight to the new hood. Would like to thank Scott for staying and helping on this tonight!
Here is the pattern we are using to get all this done.
About half way finished if all go's well done by week-end.

The hood on my butterscotch car has the same thing (no punch out where your hand goes to open the hood)

I wonder why they would do that, it wouldn't add anything to the strength I would guess.
I thought maybe mine was that way because of the early build and a new body style for the year. Not all the bugs worked out yet. :?
