console shifter lens colors

I've noticed in the past when I owned challengers and cuda the shifter lens were different colors
Some were all clear. The colors park was green reverse was red and neutral was orange and so on my road runner has these colors my question is why did they make them different is there something special about why some were
All clear and some had colors?
