Thanks for the info Dave, I'll look into that.
So, my progress for this weekend was plug welding up the holes that held the roll cage in.
With some help from my assistant (my wife) I was able to get that done.
Jan 31 (2).jpg
Jan 31 (3).jpg
Then I cleaned up a patch that was put in on the drivers side hump that was open for the Gear Vendors overdrive unit that was in there previously.
Jan 31 (1).jpg
Then I started working on the passenger side floor where the front mount was for the roll bar.
Jan 31 (4).jpg
I'm thinking of putting a patch on it like this.....

After I get done with that, I'll be moving on to this area.

Specifically where the lip is.
Jan 31 (6).jpg
as it needs some work.

So the last couple of weekends were too cold to be out in a non-heated garage. So I was back at it today and yesterday.
First I patched up the area where the plate for the roll cage was on the passenger side floor.
Feb 20 & 21 (25).jpg
Here it is cleaned up.
Feb 20 & 21 (1).jpg
Next I found another surgery spot on the top of the cowl on the drivers side.
Feb 20 & 21 (7).jpg
This area required one patch on top of another.
This is the first patch.
Feb 20 & 21 (15).jpg
same patch cleaned up.

And here's the cover patch.
Feb 20 & 21 (23).jpg
here it is all cleaned up.
Feb 20 & 21 (24).jpg
Next I added new metal to this area.
Feb 20 & 21 (20).jpg
The final area that needs attention is the bottom of that side piece just to the left of the bottom door hinge.
Feb 20 & 21 (18).jpg
That will be for next weekend.

Scott, I'm surprised that you didn't have any good spare panels to fix up those area's.
I see AMD has them, but for E-Body. Before I started it, I sure had to dig out alot of seam sealer in those areas.
I wonder if that had anything to do with the rot.

Most of the areas that I am working on are the common ones that are rusty on most cars. I have been able to fabricate most of the pieces I need, with the exception of the drivers floor pan, drivers rocker panel, drivers lower door hinge mount, and the lower quarters. Most of the work I have done so far is on interior sections of the car that won't be very visible when the car is back together. I have used these areas to learn how to weld, and am leaving the quarters for when I have acquired a little welding skill. Scott.

Are you doing full quarters or just the lower section? I had to re do all the sheet metal around the rear window due to rust holes. I got my welder set up with .025 wire. The trick to butt welds on a panel is not to build up to much heat in one spot. Do a tack then move to another area a few inches away and so on. It's time consuming but the result will be worth it. If you are going to weld the lower section under the door hinge use a weld through primer on each piece of sheet metal. This will act as a good rust preventer in any areas where sheet metal is over lapped.

So I was able to put a patch in and finish up the drivers side. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of that area, but I'll post it the next time I get into the garage. Now to tackle the passenger side - here's what I have.
Feb 27 (9).jpg
so I cut out the rusted area.
Feb 27 (1).jpg
and fitted the patch (with magnet holding it in place.
March 13 (9).jpg
before welding it in I painted inside the opening with rust encapsulator and then some paint. Then welded the patch in and put a coat of primer on the whole area.
March 13 (11).jpg
I'll add that I do use the copper weld primer on the backside of any patches to prevent further rust after they have been welded in.

So, onto the pass side front area, I started prepping the area for primer.
March 13 (14).jpg
Then *oops* I find this.
March 20 (1).jpg
here's from the inside.
March 20 (2).jpg
So trim it up for a patch.
March 20 (3).jpg
And make the patch and get it ready for welding.

Here's the welding from inside the car.
March 20 (7).jpg
And there it is all ready for some primer.

So back to the drivers side and I started at the bottom, that area cleaned up well.
March 26 (2).jpg
March 26 (8).jpg
Here's the middle section.
March 26 (3).jpg
Then I get to the top and find this.
March 26 (5).jpg
So it's time to cut it all out.
