Hi guys

I'm looking for a 489 3rd member with 3.23 Sure-grip/Posi. I will probably end up ordering a complete, restored 489. Do you have any suggestions where to look? I see Mancini racing's got them and a few on the eBag.

Or even better, do you have a good condition unit you want to part with?

Not doing a lot of cruising with my current 4.10s I can tell ya:-D

I have heard nothing but bad things about Randy's Ring and Pinion. A guy gave me his old sure-grip when he bought a new one from Randy. The axles fit loose in the splines to the NEW unit and nice and tight in the almost 40 year old one. After 3 tries from Randy (my buddy paid shipping on all 3) I ended up giving him his old unit back. I don't know who to recommend.

just wondering if you have a 83/4 rearend why not just take the center section out and have new 3.55 gears put on your center section?be alot cheaper than buying a hole center section with sure grip.i am in the same boat as you have 4.10s and will be taking my center section to a local drive line shop and have them put new 3.55 gears in my center section, also i know my sure grip is good so wont be taking a risk on buying one thats junk.just a thought.

@ 72 blue 400: I do have the rear end with a working sure grip. The problem is that I live in Europe and around here there are not many mechanics that will change the gears on a US vintage car! I have found one mechanic that will change gears and bearings, but the price will be almost as much as getting a reman. 3rd member from the US. So I think I will get a complete rear end from the US and save the 4.10 rear end for the event of me getting in to a bit of drag racing in the future:-)
