Question for you 1971 RL21 Satellite owners. Is the plastic dash insert piece that goes across the face of the dashpad wood grain? Or is it black plastic? I know it's black in the 1972 model. But I can't seem to find a picture of a 1971 RL21 dash to look at.

There aren't any RL21's for the 71 model year. There were cars with the coupe package (A93, if I remember correctly), but they carried an RH23 VIN for whatever reason.
That said, the 71 coupes did have the black plastic insert - with the raised center area like the 72s.

They also had a unique grille emblem, and only had "Satellite" badging on the quarters.

Thanks for the info. I couldn't remember if they had the coupe RL code in '71 or not. Would a '71 Road Runner possibly have the coupe interior without the woodgrain insert?

I have not seen any A93 coded road runners. Unless it was a factory mistake, I wouldn't expect to see a black insert in a 71 runner dash.

Jimmy eBay ID "recharged" had a black dash insert for sale about 6 months ago. I don't know if he sold it, but you could send him a message and ask if he has one. I love the "Plymouth" grille emblem that came with the coupe, they should have been on all Satellite's.... in my opinion.
