Road Runner Nest

Hi gang,
I was thinking of making an offer on this, but wanted your guys' opinion on the price. They're asking almost 40K. But, given the state of the economy and everything else, I know classic cars have dropped a lot too, just not sure by how much. Can I get some opinions about what you guys might think this car is worth these days?

Are you close enough to go look at it in person so that you can examine it? Take a magnet to it to check for possible bondo that is thick? Look at the paperwork they have for it? See what the fender tag says, and if it's the real fender tag for the car. If you can't see it in person. How do you plan to get it home? That can factor in as to how much you spend to get it. There's a non vinyl top black one on CarsOnline.com with blue interior for $32,500 in TX. A Plum Crazy one on Moparts in KS for $32,500. I can tell this black one didn't come with the factory exhaust tips originally. Or at least it doesn't have the correct rear valance for those. If you can show up with cash in hand, even less. That usually gets you a "Sold" reaction. It's probably there on consignment. Dealership is in TN, but the plates on the car are for TX. Asking price is generally in the range they'd ask for a car like that. I know you can have way more than that into one to have it restored by a good shop. How thick is your hide? As you know "friends" will come up to you, and say they knew of one cheaper. Or they would of never spent that much for it. So on, and so forth. It's the type of car you better have a garage for when you're not using it. Otherwise it'll age fast. Buying the car as an investment, or to flip. Then naturally it's too much money. But if you're buying it to enjoy it. That's different. Remember though, once you have it. Doesn't mean you'll get the same price back out of it. If suddenly you need to sell it fast, or decide that it really wasn't what you wanted afterall. Ball's in your court buddy!

If this is the car I think it is (I could tell for sure if the VIN was listed), it used to be extremely nice. The one I'm thinking of was OE Certified Silver at the 2001 Mopar Nationals. Unfortunately, subsequent owners did not take very good care of the car, replacing some of the valuable NOS parts with parts store stuff and driving it in less than ideal weather conditions. Last photos I saw of it a couple years ago, the exhaust had rusted, and the underside was coated with road grime. A lot of that may clean up, but it's not in the show condition it was 10 years ago. If it were, I'd say would be worth the $40K, but in anything less than show condition I'd say it's overpriced.
