Newbie from Canada

Post by 71Beeper » Wed Dec 29, 2010 7:43 am

Hello All:
I originally posted over at for B Bodies only and Eric told me to have a look see here.
So here I am. My name is John and I was an F-Body owner which I just sold and bought my 1971 Satellite.
Here's some pics.

According to the fender tag I had decoded it was a 318-2v with a 904 car. It has a 440 in it right now that the previous owner wants back. It will be getting a potent .030 over 360 solid cammed with 'J' heads smallblock. I will be changing it over to a 4 speed as well.
I'll be asking plenty of questions here as I'm new to the 71 B-Body, but they have always been my favourite car. I think this one's a keeper!!

Welcome, Looks like a great car.
Too bad the 440 has to go but your 360 will be fun.

Thanks for the kind words guys........the pictures can be deceiving.
The car came from Saskatchewan and was a race care at one time. The previous owner removed the roll cage from it. It has a tin dash with racing gauges in it along with comfy racing seats that will be replaced.
Along with the 440 there's a 727 tranny with a Gear Vendors overdrive unit in it. The good thing is that there is an 8 3/4 out back, currently there are 4:10's in it which are coming out and my set of 3:55's is going in. I'll be on the hunt for factory bucket seats and dash also a dash pad for starters.
Here's an underhood shot......

And here's an interior shot

So you guys can see, i have some work to do.

Moparmike - yes, i would love to have a bigblock in there, but my smallblock is fresh (just has to be put together) unless I can sell it and that would fund a bigblock.......

I like the dash and the seats.

Good luck with the upgrades.

Looks like it used to be Tawny Gold in colour. Where are you from in Canada I live in London and I know where parts for these might be hiding. You can't beat putting in a fresh motor.

Heck, I'd leave those seats and dash setup in it. As it looks good. Especially if the seats are comfortable. There's enough stock restored Plymouths running around in the world. Enjoy it as it is! Take the money you were going to use for the seats and dash, and paint the engine compartment red to match the rest of the car when you pull the engine out. Then maybe get a non column shift steering column for it.

If you get rid of the dash let me know. I'll take it off your hands if you're willing to part with it. Just let me know how much.

Welcome!! Thats a sweat car I like it, very clean. I'd love to have that dash. I'd leave the dash and seats, put that 360 in it and upgarde the suspension and brakes, it be a sweet pro touring car.

Moparmike - I'm a hop, skip and jump from London, I'm in Stoney Creek. I think the GY8 code is a gold leaf metallic but I'm not sure. here's the info on the fendertag.......
M21 M25 R11 END
GY8 C 22 B51 G33 J31
GY8 H2XW TX9 225 B51162
E44 D31 RH23 G1R 21xxxx

Someone on Moparts broke it down to the following:
E44 - 318 2bbl
D31 - 904 auto tranny
RH23 - Satellite 2dr htp
G - 318 2bbl
1 - 1971
R - Windsor, Ontario plant
21xxxx - VIN sequence number
GY8 - Gold Metalic (one of my favorite colors)
H2XW - high trim level vinyl bench black and white interior
TX9 - blk upper door frame paint
225 - Feb 25th, 1971 build date
B51162 - order number
GY8 - roof color, gold metallic
C22 - rear armrest without ashtray
B51 - power brakes
G33 - DS chrome mirror
J31 - single horn
M21 - roof drip rail mouldings
M25 - wide sill moulding
R11 - am radio

I'm not sure what the H2XW trim level means? anyone care to explain?

As far as colour goes, I'm not keeping it red (sorry Bruce). My Volare Road Runner was Sassy Grass green - I do love that colour. I do love high impact colours - Curious yellow ranks right up there. I'm not sure at this point.
If I keep the interior colour all black, then a high impact colour it is, but if I mix the interior colours like the factory did (white with black) then it might narrow the outside colour choices.
ILUV72RRs - I know you say there's enough stock restored Mopars around - but not in the Southern Ontario area. Plus that style seems to draw more people to your car at cruises or shows. I know it did with my 76 RR. Even though it was painted a factory colour (but not offered in 76 though) I got compliments for the clean factory interior.

Moparmike pm me if you have some parts you know of - Thanks.

Yup, GY8 is gold leaf metallic. H2XY means you had white bench seats, door panels, headliner, etc. The J2 seats have a pattern like the attached photo. The black part of the interior would have been the dash and carpet.
