Ebay sale slotted exhaust tips warning

Post by NOrrTH » Fri Sep 17, 2010 1:41 pm

Just a warning to anyone thinking of purchasing slotted exhaust tips off Ebay. I've been watching prices for a year now and JPM's Auto Parts put them on sale. Some people have got into them for well under $200 and I picked up a set for $200 plus shipping.

The problem is that the pair I got are unpolished, just raw stainless steel, and have a fleshy/orange'ish colored insert. I'm not sure if the set are a one-off and just missed a step in manufacturing and the seller never even saw them. Other than that, they appear to be very well made. Unfortunately I dont have access to a polisher or I might consider keeping them..but then theres that insert color..

If your tempted, my recommendation is to ask for a photo of the actual tips you are buying.

Here's a link to the ad:

Cheers :)

They do look nice in the auction picture. Hopefully, you got a hold of the seller and told them of the problem with the tips. If they don't want to correct them for you, turn them into ebay. The auction says "stainless steel" not unpolished you didn't get what you paid for. There's also the issue with the orange insert as well. Have them give you what you paid for and thats stainless steel tips WITH orange inserts (not crappy inserts). Personally, I would have gone to BE/A. Yeah, price is higher but the quality makes up for it and good customer service. Just my 2 cents. Hope it gets corrected for ya. :)

Thanks for the kind words.

An update: I got a hold of a guy who bought the same tips off this guy and he says that his are "so highly polished he was surprised" and the inserts are "very red". Its been 24 hours and I still have yet to hear from JPM so I filed a dispute with Paypal. I'm not worried as I been through this before and will get my money other than return shipping. I do however REALLY want these exhaust tips. They are very heavy duty and the welds are excellent, much better than the picture. I'll probably upload a pic later.

With regards to BE & A, I live in Canada and we have PG Classics which, from what I hear, is BE & A's partner so they have the same stuff. Maybe thats erroneous though. Looking on PG's site the tips dont look as good. Although everything else I've bought from them is superb quality.

NOrrth:

BE/A is not affiliated with PG. Though could be wrong, and god I have been before, but from other boards on old Mopars, they are not. BE/A actually puts the p/n's on the parts they make and the quality is better. Other members here dont hesitate to reply if I need to be corrected. If I am wrong, sorry to PG.

From what I've heard, JPM sells PG's "seconds".

I bought a set of shifter rods from them a couple years ago and they were total crap.

Well I dont know whats going on with JPM. I had to escalate my dispute to a claim because he still has not communicated with me at all. I'm seriously thinking something bad has happened to him. The only other time I had a "claim" with Paypal, the seller told me Paypal froze his account until it was resolved. Not sure if that was bs or not.

Thanks for the recommendation of BE & A, if they are different than PG Classics, I'll pay the extra to purchase from him.

Sorry you had to do that NOrrTH...Least going thru ebay is a plus that you can dispute over a item and possibly get your coin back...In the long run, I think you'll be happy with BE&A. :)

Well JPM never returned my messages until I filed a claim and then offered me a refund less the $30 shipping I paid to get it to me. The money is in my Paypal account. Now he sends me a message asking what the tracking number is for the tips I sent back to him.

I'm bitter he didn't refund me the full amount. Should I say:

1. Refund me the shipping I paid and then I'll pay to ship these back to you.

2. Refund me the shipping I paid and you pay to have them shipped back.

3. Tell him to go screw himself and keep the tips.

He obviously blew it giving me a refund before he had the tips back. Personally I'm leaning towards 1. I'm also wondering if Paypal/Ebay can force me to send the tips back or pull the refund out of my account. In all honesty, I dont want these tips on my car. Even if I found someone to polish them, they're still orange inside. I'm picky and weird and crap like that eats me up.

#2, he sent you an inferior product, you shouldn't have to pay anything.

If you don't send back the tips ebay and paypal will take the $ from your account. He should pay for the original shipping costs. He didn't refund the $ to you, Paypal and ebag did that your behalf because you filed a dispute. I would just trade the bad set of tips for a good pair. It was probably an honest mistake on the sellers part. Keep the tips and karma will surely bite you in the A$$. Just when you think you got away with it and spent the $ you will get an over draft notice that your account is over drawn and that will end up costing you more. Do the right thing and send the tips back. GOOD LUCK!

Maybe the seller would let you keep the tips at a reduced price. Repainting and polishing them isn't that big of a job.
