Recently I saw a Satellite advertised as having a "Road Runner Decor Package." Meaning a Road Runner hood from the factory on a Satellite. Having never heard of it. I eventually went and checked my dealer data books in my collection to see what it had to say for a code. Well as you probably guessed. There was no such package offered by the Chrysler/Plymouth dealerships. Yes, you could order a plain jane Barracuda in '73 & '74 with the Sport ('Cuda) hood. But that was it. Unfortunately nothing like that for the Satellite. So in this case. If it looks like a duck. Walks like a duck. Then it's a quack. Could a dealership have installed one? Never say never. But the person better have the paperwork to prove what they're trying to sell you.

There was a nice post a few months back where a guy that worked at a Mopar dealer back in the day said that the dealer's were always doing things like that if it meant a sale...and that a lot of the cars that came into the dealership had to be put back together...some were missing steering wheels, exhaust systems..etc.

Could a Satellite Sebring Plus, or a Satellite Sebring, or a Satellite Coupe, or a Satellite Sundance come with a Roadrunner bulge hood? I bet if a guy wanted it ordered that way back in the day, it could have been done. But, it wasn't an option from factory, that's for sure.

That Is whats unfortunate about things like that.Theres a lot of people that could have different options that weren't meant to be factory but came on the car at sale. Those people are also being told that it wasn't stock or it was done later on,they are not being believed and are mostly bashed because of it,If its put on before it leaves the factory....I don't see a difference between that and an advertised option. Not everything is documented and not everything numbers correct.

Reminds me of years ago when these two guys got in a big shouting match with one another at a local Mopar club meeting. Almost to the point of fists! Regarding this guy's '70 'Cuda. He was the original owner, and bought it off of the dealership lot. It left there with 440-6 Pack Dodge emblems on the shaker scoop. Not the standard 'cuda440-6 emblems. Which he happened to be quite proud of that fact. Needless to say. The owner of the 'Cuda never came back to the meeting! He kept insisting that it left the "factory" that way, and that there was no way that the dealership might of changed it. I look at it that maybe it happened. Leaving the Chrysler plant with Dodge emblems. As Chrysler wouldn't of pushed a car off the line for something as simple as not having the right emblems that day. They would of grabbed a Dodge shaker scoop, and sent the car on it's way. The only problem is that years later. If you go to sell the car. People look sort of strange at you, and won't buy the story. Or they think you're trying to add extra value to the car. Because it is unique. Which unfortunately requires paperwork to back up a story. I doubt if I would of been smart enough to even think of asking the salesman to write a note, and date it. Showing that it left there with Dodge emblems on the car. So I wouldn't be suprised if some Satellites might of left dealershps with Road Runner hoods on them. But to say you've got an available "package" on the car. I think is stretching the truth a bit.

A 73 roadrunner i formerly owned was coded for an "interior decor package" , I want to say it was code A88, but that's just fuzzy memory. Basically it was nicer style door panels and pleats in the seats, that wasn't the standard issue interior.

Generally Chrysler had 3 interiors for their cars. The bench seat base version. Then a deluxe bench seat interior with nicer upgrades. Spend even more money and you got the bucket seat interior which was the top of the line. Even the top of the line version in certain years you could get upgrades to that for the seats themselves. Each of these interiors have their own code which shows up on the fender tag. So you'll know if a car really came with the interior that is in it, or if it's been upgraded. I know in '71 & '72 the upper interior pads are different between the base model and deluxe bench seat model. The deluxe bench seat models have the same upper pads as the bucket seat cars.
