MY NEW 72RR BEAST!

Hello!
I'm a newbie based in Melbourne, Australia. (Not Melbourne Florida). The dream has always been a black 71/72 Roadrunner... I like the side markers on the 71 but the nose on the 72 kills me. Torn between two loves I guess... For 5 years I've been watching cars on the Bay, went to Carlisle last year... another dream come true. I bought and disassembled another black 72 (still a work in progress) and then this one popped up last year... what can you do? BUY IT NOW! After fitting air con locally, finally the beast arrived last friday direct from the US. Everything from top to toe has been refurbed and looks schmick.

She needs a few mech odds and ends sorted like the sloppy steering box... A few local compliance issues (like the headlights) also need to be addressed but she's able to be regsitered left hand drive. AFter two days driving on the 'wrong side' I'm used to the seating position. Only right hand turns are a bit tricky.

I'm quite partial to the black wheels so I'm gonna leave them to percolate for a few months then decide!
The Summit tyres are rubbish, so TAs will go on asap.

There's probably only 10 or so 1971s or 72s in the country, so I know what it's like to have love for what many consider an oddball model. There's 3 weeks til the Australian Chrysler Nats so we'll have a thrash and see if we can get this thing sorted!

Ciao!

Hey Woody
It's about time you introduced yourself here! Nice ride. I really like the black wheels on that car. Are the stripes white or gold? Let's see more pics.

Thanks for the feedback, I waited 5 years for the perfect car to materialise. I coulda waited another 5 for an N96 car but... on the other hand I've always fancied a sublime green 71 and now I have time to start looking I guess.

Interestingly, I've had unanimous AWESOME calls from dudes in the past few days... last night took me 30 minutes to get out of the local carpark at a pub due to the interest, even if they have no idea what car it is. However I've found women are a little intimidated if my first weeks experience is any guide. I had my other car (daily 70 Camaro driver) in the shop and three women all told me they preferred the Chev, which is pretty rough and ready in a shade of yellow I call '5 shades of pi55'. I think the Bird is big and black and too macho. My wife loves it though so that's all that counts.

Stripes are def white... they're both reflective as well, not those cheapo white ones.

Schmick might be an australianism. I'm never too sure what translates and what doesn't!
Descriptive word, usually depecting a person or thing. If referring to a person, theres Lots of confidence, and an aura of almost detachment. In general, Means very suave, very smooth, ultra-cool.
1. I say this in Australia to mean anything sick, cool, tight or excellent.
Usually the item is new, shiny, fresh and mad bling-bling style.
2. Can also be an said to mean 'cool' 'allright' 'OK' or 'yeah' in response to a question, to show your down with it.
1. "Man that Skyline is a Schmick ride."

Awesome car

You could always build a Hybrid 71/2 like I am

Its not fun installing 71 marker lites in 72 fendrs and quarters ,

But they sure beat the plastic ones that stick out on a 72 ..

BEAUTIFUL car .

Woody I must say that you bought a beautiful 72, "I don't think I have seen a better example of what a 72 in the color of Black should look like", is it an auto trans or 4sp?
Beautiful, just Beautiful! Congrats.......

Exactly what i as thinking! Well I am still planning to do that to the shell that I already have stripped.
The car is an auto Nick! It coudl def do with a little tightening up... it seems to prefer living in second gear.

Today the headlights were changed to right hand drive. I have to fit some new bushes and then she's good to go to the REG dept to be approved... just had to wait 10 days for an appt. I'm gonna drive it for a bit and let some steam off before I pull the engine down for improvement. Those 72 smogdonks are all talk and no action!

Hey Woody
I didn't know headlights were specific to right or left hand drive???
Fit it with bushes, what does that mean?

Eric,
Guess you're not watching the all the English "Classic Cars" fix-up TV shows running now. They are always changing out the "bushes" on the front suspension. Referred to as bushings here in the states.

Most headlight beams are biased to the shoulder side of the road. When in Oz, you drive on the wrong side of the road requiring a left-hand biased headlamp.
