Realistically....how much is my car worth?

Post by BarryBum » Thu Oct 29, 2009 9:56 am

Realistically.....not Barrett Jackson fantasy world stuff......but in real world.....how much do you think my car would be worth. Don't worry about hurting my feelings, because my guess is around the $10-$12 mark.
1971 Satellite Sebring Plus,318 auto with the 904 trans, fresh paint, new interior, new wheels and tires, gull wing, grabber replica hood, new bumpers. Like I said, don't worry about hurting my feelings with inflated numbers. I am looking for an honest number from the experts...... I put it out there at first at $18,500 just to test the waters, then dropped it to $17,000, then dropped it to $15,500 and still haven't got a single hit on it.

Hi Barry - I have been following your car for a long time and I want to tell you that it is just beautiful.
Being a 318 car does hurt its value but that is too the number guys and collector guys that are out there.
I have also been folloing your thread about the trade and I did give you a thumbs up on that decision.
As far as the worth of the 71, that is real hard to determine because it is not what it is, if it was a true RR, in these times and they are bad, I would have to say 15-19k but in all honesty your car is a 318 SSP which is still a step up from a Satellite I would say 12-13K. You have some expensive parts on your car and it is a shame that you will lose $$$ in this sale. I hope you will get what you want, sell it out right or in a trade and be happy with the out come and never look back. Good Luck, Nick

As a lover of gold cars, your car is just stunning! How you could not get at least 15k for it...that's beyond me.

SSP or not, I'd be proud to cruise in it for 15k.

Thanks Nick, I appreciate your input. I have decided to go ahead and pull the trigger on this Corvette. I am leaving as soon as I hit the enter button to go finish the deal. I've still got this 78 Dodge D100 that I am big blocking and pro streeting to handle my Mopar fix.....but I am looking forward to getting back into the Corvette realm too.
Again, thanks for your input here. I didn't want to put this "over you know where" just cause of all the riff raff...... 8)

Understood, grab the other car and have some some fun with the wife, I have had 3 of them and yes, I have enjoyed all three of them, 58, 67 and a 69vert. There are cars for driving from point A to point B and you sacrifice comfort for the feel and the memories and then there are cars that run well everyday and all day driving around town in 100deg temps to long distance places where you and the Mrs can relax and enjoy not worring about the chances of a breakdown or overheating..... When you go on your first trip you will know just what I mean.... Good Luck..... 8)

I also think you will be doing fine with the Vette trade (read the thread on Moparts), however, I would bet you will be back into an old Mopar soon enough. I burned out on a '70 V-code 4-spd shaker 'Cuda back in '06 after 8 years of ownership and though that selling it to buy a Viper would get me excited and keep me happy, well after less than two years, I sold it the Viper (at a $14k loss :( ) and my '70 383 4-spd RR to pony up the cash to buy another '70 V-code 4-spd shaker 'Cuda   This past April, I bought my TX9 4-spd U-code GTX as I realized that I always have to have cars to tinker with. Another thing is, the new cars while superior to the classics in almost every performance category, truly lack "soul", and get "old" really quickly... Anyway, good luck with the vette
