stripping undercoating . whats the best way ?

what is best method to strip undercoating , mainly on the inner fender , im doing the whole car but on the inner fender/underside i dont want to use anything that adds heat because the fenders are finnidhed paint .

I was going to say heat and a putty knife. That's all I've ever heard of guys using that actually WORKS... but then I saw what you said about heat...

I would guess it depends on what type of undercoating is there.. .on the Serious project, I found a very tarry substance that they used as undercoating AND trunk coating. ..more like roofing tar. . .

it's even all over the drive shaft, which probably contributed to a huge shimmy in the sixty plus mph range, (that and two front tires that needed changing. . .)

I'm using mineral spirits and a hardened plastic scraper on my undercarriage and drive shaft and gear box . .

but that's only because it's more of a tar than what I would consider traditional undercoating. . .

some say dry ice and a light tap with a hammer. some also have gotten frost bite.

I did my whole underside the heat with propane and scrape way. I think I did more damage to the paint scraping than heating.

I use a harsh chemical stripper and putty knife. I bought the stripper years ago @ Carlisle, sorry I don't remember the name, worked great though. Soak the undercoat, wait a bit, peel it right off w/the putty knife.

would AIRCRAFT stripper work ?
