Advice for a newbie
Hello All
I am excitedly anticipating joining the fold, and walking away from my Ford affliction. Being such I need some urgent advice and feedback from those that have all the knowledge.
I just found yout site today, wish I had a week ago, but I noted some of you track a lot of the RoadRunners and clones out there. I have hold money on a great looking 1972 Roadrunner clone, in the color I've been searching for at Texas Toy Box. I wrestled them on price and reached an agreeable term. Have not fully pulled the trigger yet. I did an exhastive dig on the web for information about Texas Toy box. I have found only a very small number ( 4 ) detailed complaints about them and in at least 1 case I think it was probably someone that complains about everything.
I'd like to think the car they are offering is legit at the price. Maybe folks on here know about that particular car or the dealer. I realize most dealers are out to rook you it's just how bad you can limit it. I've received pictures of the trunk and underside of the said car and all appears well, but without seeing the car in person and putting a mag to it you won't know about loads of bondo.
So does anyone know about the Sassy Green 1972 Roadrunner clone on his site? Any Advice? Any feedback on the dealer. I cannot go see the car in person, I live too far away.
All help I am completely greatful for.

Re: Advice for a newbie
Texas Toy Box has been around for a while. That's all I know.
Not sure if a 318 Lite will hold it's value. Not to say that car is a bad car. Can't tell but I bet you can find a real RR in the same shape with a 360 or 383 for the same price.
Just don't be in a hurry to buy, particularly if you can't inspect it your self.
Good luck, keep hangin out here and you'll learn more as you go.

Thanks Ctown, I've got access to several 440s and 340s througha local machine shop friend. SO that 318 was going to be replaced. It's not a quick jump, been looking for awhile, specifically for a green one. Price seems about right for that car if the condition is legit or so I thought........

Hi Bill! Glad to see you posted your question here too! As I said in my reply to your PM I've not heard anything good about Texas Toy Box. Are you on Moparts? Try doing a search on Texas Toy Box on Moparts. I know I've seen threads about them and their cars there.

Re: Advice for a newbie
Apologies in advance to Bill, but I'll start. The good--air grabber hood and go wing (although it's a '70 style, correct?)! The so-so--incorrect buckets, black engine compartment, stripe is incorrect isn't it?. The bad? Look at the difference between the two quarter panels behind the rear wheel opening. Also, on the right quarter there seems to be a "bulge" in front of the rear wheel opening. From that I'd be suspect that the car has some bondo.
Bill, I'd want to have someone look at this car for me before I pulled the trigger.
Anyone know of a nice SUBLIME RR or clone for sale we can hook Bill up with?

Re: Advice for a newbie
Thanks Bruce
I don't mind at all, this is exactly why I came here and posted here. I am on a budget and would like to find a nice RR ( clone or not ) that is not a major project. I do prefer green yes, it is my first choice, but heck if someone knows of a better car/deal don't hesitate to let me know. I don't want to get ripped off. If over all it appears to be a good car for $14k then great. If not and I'm in for trouble I'll walk away. I've got hold money down, waiting on financing so there's time to back away if I have to.
Now if it's a good deal for that money, great, I'll be more than happy to be an active part of the nest in Green!!

Re: Advice for a newbie
ahh I see what you mean about the rear quarter behind the wheels, almost as if one was cut off. *Sigh very disappointing, it's a nice looking car. Are these sort of problem areas expected in a 14K car? Am I expecting too much of a car in that price range?

Re: Advice for a newbie
I really think if you're patient you can find a better car for your money, especially a clone. So no, I don't think you're expecting too much, I think they are asking too much for this particular car.

Re: Advice for a newbie
Bill, check the Moparts classifieds! Here's a couple I found--first is a '71 Road Runner clone, '68 383 and Prowler purple for $7k. It's in the Cleveland area and I'm sure Dave Goerlich would be happy to look this car over for you. Second and even better is a REAL '72 Road Runner 340 car in PA. Original red paint with white top and interior and white tank track stripes! $15,500 for that one... Kinda confirms what I thought about $14k being too much for this one in Texas.

Re: Advice for a newbie
It's very hard to throw that much $ on a car that you can not personally inspect. I think you could find a real runner that needs some work for less then then you would spend on this car. Maybe if it had a period correct big block in it and a couple of other things done it might be worth the $. I have heard a couple of negative things about Texas toys. I read about a guy who bought a got general lee clone from them and after he had the car shipped to him he finally got the chance to see the car in person for the first time. He was not a happy camper to say the least. There were many problems with the work that was done to that car. I think I read about this on Moparts. Good luck!

Re: Advice for a newbie
Thanks for jarring my memory on that one! Yep, that was the one I recall hearing about on Moparts, a General Lee clone that was an absolute bondo buggy--the manner in which the bodywork on that car was performed was horrific. Bill RUN, do not walk, away from this one!
