Wow, must no longer be a federal crime to sell VIN#s anymore. Pretty sad to think that some jack *** will probably try to scam a car off with one of these....I know you got some VINs flagged Eric..I did see a GTX listed here.

That guy has been buying fender tags AND dash VINS for several years now. VERY suspicious if you ask me.
For anyone interested, the full VIN on the GTX tag is RS23U1G179256 (I've been tracking that one since he bought it on ebay back in April 07).

This is something that really pisses me off!! It's one thing to collect these things. How much is it worth to a collector? I don't think a fender tag is worth more than a couple of dollars. If this guy had the tags for my car and wanted to rip me off, I think I would have to hunt him down and cut his throat with that tag. A few years ago there was a guy in Milwaukee that sold me a 72 rallye charger, it was a numbers matching car but was missing the build sheet and the fender tags. A month or so later he tried to sell these to me for $200 knowing well that they would increase the cars value. I got them for 10 dollars after convincing him it would be the right thing to do. Everyone is trying to cash in on the mopar madness.

numbers are "really important" in mopar land, but not so much in chevy and ford camps....if you take a car and throw away the 6 or small 8, put in a 454 or 428 - or even a crate motor, nobody really cares...but then again, if you drop a hemi and a 4 speed in a satellite, it'd pry pull as much money as a six pack runner or x..but if you just change from a 318 to a 360 or a 383 to a 440 in a mopar, it's like blasphemy...

at first i wanted to put my car back to original with a warranty 318 block and trans, etc. but going back to a small block, putting in a bench, geting all the chrome my car came with, etc. it wouldn't be worth it...meanwhile, i can do a stock looking resto, but a performance drivetrain and be more than happy

I would think that would be tantamount to extortion. . .I'd have definitely talked to an attorney about that one. . .or the cops.

I went ahead and did a decent internet search on detached vin numbers and found more than a few case historys where people were arressted and charged with the felony for doing just what this vendor is doing.

So, I filled out a complaint form to e-bay regarding his actions.

What the hell. . .we've gotta keep the Mopar world free of the petty criminals. . .and frauds.

That's an outrage. The funny thing there are guys out there that will pay that much. The only people that will spend that much is someone doing something underhanded.

It should be either way. The person selling the VIN had to somehow remove the tag and the one buying the tag, either way, they both know that the such vehicle is no longer road worthy or destroyed. This would be difficult to pronounce your innocence in a court of law why you have a tag to a car and the one buying the tag that the car don't exist anymore. More than likely, they're be trying to put the screws to someone, usually someone who thinks he/she is buying a real "collector" car when in fact is isn't. Just my 2 cents

I collect old Godzilla toys and stuff (who'd think it with my screen name?) and about 6 years ago I went to sell a VHS copy of a flick that had not yet gone to DVD. eBay proceeded to cancel my auction and issue me a warning about selling a tape that was fraudulent, illegal, criminal, blah blah-kitchen-sink-bad-evil-person-shame-shame. Thing is, I had even taken a photo of the UPC code on the BOX and made specific reference to it being an authentic VHS tape. I re-listed it and they left it alone the second time.

You'd think pulling the tags off of one car and slapping them on another would be more serious, but think about it - no big companies seeking 'damages' and claiming copyright infringement, paying lots of lawyers to sue and so forth.

In short, no corporate interest = no interest.
