We used to bleach up our tires before burn outs, too.

i thought of something too.could my 318 only be running 6 cylinders?

oh i reposted that on accident.i was tryin to take it off and reposted it somehow?

also i was wondering.do you have to get up to speed to shift into second with a b&m ratchet shifter.theb stop and smoke em.

hey don't laugh.the 318 is all i can afford on a 16 year olds job (6.50 an hour)

ERICK , forget about the burnouts for now , youll be hard pressed to get the wheels to spin with a 318 , besides @ $6.50hr you dont want to be breanking stuff . just drive it and enjoy it . they anit no fun when they are in little parts scattered all over the garage . trust me mine has been down going on 2 years now .

Not sure of spec's but in 67 a small block had more horse power and torque than a 72 or 71 for that matter.

It's not apples to apples here. Way different HP rating. Less compression etc. It would take new intake maybe a 4Bl carb, higher flow heads and headers or at least dual exhaust to make more HP and torque to match and mid 60's small block.
I could be wrong.

I am a budget consious person too. On my car it's all about mechanical reliability FIRST. Brakes. suspension, cooling.
If U lived near by I could look it over with you. Maybe someone else can step up.

Do you have a timing light. If so put it on each spark pug wire and see if your reading spark to each plug.

Did you pull each plug and inspect them. Fresh plugs are a must.
Cap and rotor. Check for pitting. Replace as needed.

Only take one plug wire off at a time. It is a bitch to remember how then went from cap to plug in the right sequence.

New wires may be helpful also.
Thats just the basic stuff I can think of righ now.

Good luck.

Yellow is nice on those cars.

yeah thats true,a 60's 318 has as much horse power as some 70s big blocks.

cant do a burnout

Post by JosephGiannini » Sat Aug 16, 2008 11:46 pm

well if this is the case with a torqueflight 904 or a 727 this can be simply a kickdown spring adjustment. Meaning that it isnt applying kickdown to the transmission to allow the lower gear range to engage. simply adjusting this nut and spring can change the whole activation of the gear range.

This is my slant six '75 Duster doing a burnout. If its tuned correctly, even a smog-dog 2.76 geared Mopar should be able to do a burnout.... mine can!

CLICK HERE FOR LINK TO BURNOUT!!

It may take a second to download, it's hosted on my webpage.

Sorry I haven't introduced myself yet, I just bought a '73 Satellite, so I'll say "Hello!" now then.
