73X made a comment on another thread that it was not impossible to remove the dash pad without having to remove the frame and cluster, or even lowering the colume. So I gave it a try, and it worked. The hardest nut was on the drivers side. The dash I pulled is in the photo below, its actually pretty nice, it just wasn't original.

so what are you doin puttin in a new pad or getting a cap on that one?

new pad from Nicks, here is a photo of the pad i pulled with the new pad from Nick (new pad is on the bottom). I just need to fix one of the vents on the dash insert, change the nameplate with an NOS I have, and touch up the silver trim.

lol yep - big difference - i have to get around to that, as it's about the most embarrasing thing havin a car everyone checks out, and you have a nasty cracked-up dash - i'll probably just get a cap for now, unless i just save more for the actual pad, but won't the repopped ones crack just like the originals?

I'm sure materials are better then in the 70's, but most of all, its not going on a daily driver. Mine is garaged, and even driving around, I have one of those carpet like pads to cover the dash pad.

I pulled mine without the dash frame. I'm going to take the frame out though and re-paint it, then put the whole assembly back in

lol...i saw that when i was still in high school - thought it was pretty cool, so i dyed my seat inserts bright blue and painted the dash bezels blue also - i changed it back to all black with "walnut" not too long after
