73-74s becoming more popular?
This site has always had a "soft spot" for the 71-74s with the 71-72 dominating most discussions. In '98 when I was looking for a 71-72 (before the internet was really an option) I had a tough time finding one and eventually stumbled upon a '71 Barracuda. I bought it and have yet to get it finished although it is freshly painted and just waiting to get reassembled. I wish I would have waited and skipped the Cuda. Anyway at the time most folks dismissed the 71-72 as not being "real" Roadrunners or "real" musclecars. There was little if any discussions other then '68-70s. Over the last 5 years their popularity has definitely risen. The past few weeks on several mopar boards I am seeing more and more 73-74 discussed. Are these the next "big" thing? If so I'm glad I got to the party before the prices are driven up.

I'm really hoping they aren't the next big thing. I like the lines of the 71-74 Satellite base auto and have always preferred them over other Mopars. I fell in love with my first 73 Road runner when I drove by father's friends pay on the lot car lot and saw that Bronze bird sitting there calling my name. It was late 1975 and the car was a repo, so I got it pretty darn cheap.
I'm glad to see other 73/74's talking about their cars . . .it's about time. But, I sure hope they don't get the reputation of being the next
fool's gold. . .

Yeah, but most of us stripped the smog devices out. . .I hated that egr valve. . .mopar71 wrote:Being a teen in that era,the 73-74s had to much smog devices in them that killed the performance, my friend had a 74 rr and always had problems, most with the egr valve.
Until I stripped that stuff out, I had problems with stalling. . .after that, no problem

Emissions....what's that? Inspections? EGR Valves?
Man I love Florida, lol!
As I mentioned in another post, I've seen a jump in prices of our 73/74 cars over the last few years. Hell, there's even a 75 Runner on EBAY doing quite well. I'm happy for the guy too. The value of our cars is about 10 years behind our 71/72 brethren I'd say. Therefore, look at the value of their cars now (other than Hemi or Six-Pack cars, there's no catching up to those) and figure ten years from now we may find ourselves in that value ballpark.
