I like finding things out about my car.and the following is what i came across during a "Sundance Investigation" i did awhile back..
Enjoy
-------------------------------------
Every couple days or so I do a google search of the name of my car.The reason I do that Is to find as much Info on my car as possible. And just about everytime I do a search I find something new.Well a long time ago when I first got my car,I had did a search. Not knowing anything about the Sundnce Packaged Satellites I found another fellow Sundance owner.
This owner belonged to a Mopar club that Is local to me.The "Burlington Mopar Club" wich Is In New Jersey, where I live.I found the other Sundance on the gallery page of the clubs website. In caption on the picture It said that the car was Owned by a club member named "Mopar Betty",It sported a road runner hood,318,and it was a Sundance packaged satellite(that was rare).
That was the first pic of another Sundance I ever saw.I e-mailed the webmaster of the site and asked If he knew anythng about Mopar Betty or her car.He eventually e-mailed back saying she dropped out of the club years ago.He had attached a pic to the returned e-mail.It was a picture of the head panel Sundance decal from Betty's Satellite. So that was the only info I got on her or her car,a decal....
(Ok This is where it gets good
)
Recently doing one of my searches I found a link to a Mopar forum,The title of the topic was "1974 Plymouth Satellite Sundance Rare or not?"
Reading over some of the posts I knew that most of them had no clue what they were talking about.and others were pretty much dead on.I joined the site and found the topic again to put in my 2 cents.I introduced myself as being a proud owner of a 74 Satellite Sundance Edition. Then I went back and corrected most of the false posts.Everyone in the group was trying to find as many resources to these Sundances as they could. They posted pics
of ones forsale.and also ones that were beyound repair, well alot of ones that were beyound repair.ha.
I realized these guys were as curious about Sundances as much as I was.So I got the idea to make a video of my car for them. And thats what I did.I took the camera and filmed my car,I got video of everything that made the Sundances,Sundances..
Knowing that the board members only saw a picture of a Sundance Satellites. I was excited to see there reactions to the video. They enjoyed It.They also had more questions.."Like why does your vynal top end in a different spot then other Sundances."
I answersd as many of them as i could..
A couple days went by looking at Sundance links that other poeple had posted. So I thought I would post a link to the Burlington Mopar Club site where I saw Mopar Bettys Sundance. After a few hours I had checked the
forum again. One man that was from Jersey also said."Hey Mopar Betty had her car forsale at the "car-b-que mopar meet".I asked If he knew anything about her...He then posted a picture of ..once again mopar bettys head panel sundance decal.I thought to myself.."What Is It with people and Bettys decal".lol.but this pic was more tarnished than the one I got from the clubs webmaster.Wich meant it was taking after the previous pic.
Knowing that this"Mopar Betty" lived in New jersey, and that she had a car just like mine.I thought a couple times I wonder If I could have her car...but I never kept that thought...So I had mentioned that.He said well match her decal to your decal. He then gave me a link to the car-b-que site.looking through the galleries I clicked on the 2004 album.Scrolling down I saw It.A 1974 Plymouth Satellite Sebring With Sundance Packaging sitting at a carshow with a forsale sign In the window. It looked exactly like mine.Wich reminded me to check my decal and compare It with mine.So I printed out the pic of bettys decal and ran to my car, uncoverd the front end and looked. It was dark and the flashlight I had was dim so I couldnt really make too much out..but one thing I did notice was a small rust spot above the bottom of the S in Sundance wich was on my car,and It looked the same on Bettys decal. And even the spots where the decals had faded where the same.
I coverd my car back up and went In the house.I told my mom and brother that I think I have Mopar Bettys car. They doubted that this could be true.So I thought ok,maybe I was assuming It was automaticly, and It could have been a very similar car as mine.So when I got back on the computer I brang up the picture of bettys car at the car-b-que.Looking closely I notce stuff I didnt see before....So I rushed to bring up a pic of my car close to the same angle as the one taking of bettys. And thats when I knew.
I have Mopar Bettys Sundance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everything was the same.Betty had American Racing rims, the Road Runner hood, the rust spots were the same, and the vynal roof was In the same spot.I was so excited.Even though I have no clue who Mopar Betty Is I still think Its cool to know that I have her car,the same car I saw on the internet from day one,the same car that Betty once owned.I dont know If this car meant as much to her as It does to me.but either way Im sure she'd be glad to know that her Sunny Satellite Is In good hands. Here is the website where you can see Mopar Bettys old car and my new car.
