Mopar Action,

I don't subscribe but bought it just for the cover car. I looks great as a vert.

I have seen the rest of the Daclona stable at the Nats, hopefully this one will surface there too.

That's why you shouldn't bother with the "Nats" and go to the REAL national Mopar show in Carlisle. ;) Pam, Gary and Mike had ALL of the Dayclona cars at Carlisle, including X-Con. :)

The car is really sweet. They put a lot of work into it, but as typical with them, it's done very well, down to the little details (like the anti-rattle wedges in the door jams). The side glass is all custom made (big $$$), the top is a modified e-body piece, and the back seat is cut down to fit around the tub. Of course, everything works. They had to increase the angle of the a-pillars to meet the roof, so it does have a little different feel when sitting in it (granted, it's really odd to be sitting in a 71 and not having a roof above your head).

I spent a good part of the ACN weekend hanging out with Gary and Pam at the Dayclona display. I'll admit, while X-Con is really cool, my favorite is still the Superbird. Especially now that Gary did the astratone dash treatment (as was originally planned for the 71s).

Oh, and for you that don't know, Eric was very instrumental in feeding Gary and Pam info about Plymouth specific details during the build of the car. I didn't have as much of a part in helping with info on this one as I did while they were building the Superbird though - sucks being so busy sometimes.

There's an article in one of the recent mopar collector's guides too...I'm a little biased toward that one because they mention me in it! :D
I think Gary cringes a little when Dave or I look at the car and point out the little incorrect items....but it's only because he asked. It's a very well built vehicle. The craftsmanship is amazing.

I think this next year I will go to Carlisle instead of Columbus. Just for a change if nothing else.

dave, the dash treatment you're talking about must be the argent that people were talking about recently...what color is that exactly? textured at all....that's how i'm thinking about doing mine somehow...

Yea, it's an argent like color with a texture. The instrument cluster and the dash pad insert (over the glove box) are both done. It's a REALLY cool effect. I'm seriously considering doing it in Project Blue Bird. With the deluxe interior door panels, and that astrotone dash, it really feels like you are in an airplane cockpit.

that's kind of what i was wondering - like a dark, med, or light argent gray...seen several pics of the bird but all with wood dash...

i might have just answered my own question...astrotone is the same finish on the rallye wheel center caps, according to an aar/ta site...so my assumption is that it is the same finish
